Pros & Cons
Middle-aged retriever favorite! I bought this for my 8 year old golden retriever who has experienced early onset arthritis since the age of 4. I’ve managed her condition with dietary supplements thus far but lately she’s been getting sore and stiff when she initially gets up in the mornings. So, it was time for the big guns. I’d been eyeing off orthopedic beds for a while now and this one had good reviews and also had the surrounding cushions I knew she’d love to rest her head on. From the second I opened the packaging and put the mattress into the zipped casing, she was in it. Admittedly, she was trying to drag it around at first thinking it was a really big play thing for her but once she sat in it, I couldn’t get her out. She loves it and I love seeing how comfy she is. She is 70 pounds and I think she likes the size (large) and amount of wriggle room this bed allows her.
My Boston Terrier LOVES this dog bed! Excellent material and size. We needed a new Dog Bed for our 8 year old Boston Terrier. He weighs 25 pounds and is a little large for a Boston. I selected the Small JoyElf Orthopedic Dog Bed based on many recommendations and I just like the way it looks. I put it on one of our couches which has soft cushions, the JoyElf Bed has a nice firm bottom pad built in which gives the perfect amount of softness and support. As soon as I opened the JoyElf bed and put it on the couch, our Boston jumped right up and took a nap as if it had always been his bed! He's normally very active and not a long term sleeper, so it was funny to see him in the Joy Elf Bed. The materials are very well made and the bottom material has little rubber bits that make it non-slip, so the bed stays put. No industrial material smells at all, right out of the pack, it did take a couple of days to completely "fluff" out. The included stuffed dog bone isn't of interest to my dog at all, even though it has a squeaker in it. So, not much of a chew-toy. SMALLER THAN DESCRIBED by just a tad - Here are the dimensions of the "small" JoyElf Memory Foam Bed: Width : 17 inches Height at corners: 6 inches Bottom pad thickness: 2 inches Length: 24 inches Seams are very well stitched, material seems durable, and fabric that contacts the dog is very soft and should last a nice long time. Cover is removable and washable. Based on our dog's response, it's a keeper and I am certainly very impressed with the comfort and quality along with the very nice design that allows our dog to park his head on the raised sides. I definitely recommend this dog bed.
Amazing dog bed! I purchased this bed for a local animal rescue for a senior dog with hip problems, she loved it!!! In fact the foster dad we sent it to calls it the Cadillac of all dog beds and tells everyone with a dog how amazing it is. I have since ordered a few more for the other dogs in need from the same rescue and will continue to keep buying and donating these beds. Great dog bed!!!
Comfrtable all night long. I have a 95# German Shepherd who has always had an egg carton foam mattress to sleep on. As he's gotten older and has some arthritic issues now at 10 years old, I thought I'd give him a bit more cushioning. He hates new things so I was prepared to send it back or give it to the neighbor. I was pleasantly surprised when he laid in it as soon as we unpacked it and for the past two nights has slept in it for 8 - 9 consecutive winner. Me? I'm impressed with the industrial quality zippers and the amount of sturdiness the sides offer. The cloth both inside and out appears to be substantial and very comforting for him. We're both happy and I'd buy this product again. In the picture he looks scrunched up but he always sleeps in a ball anyway. I've added some pillows to the short edges so his head rests.
The Chuck Norris of dog beds. I originally bought this bed for my ONE (yes singular, we'll get to that in a minute) Husky, and to be honest, I didn't think it would last too long. She liked to chew...on everything. She had already destroyed another bed along with several blankets, so I didn't have too much faith that this bed would be able to defend itself from her ruthless husky destruction. Little did I know that this poor bed would have much bigger problems to worry about in its future. For the next few weeks I kept score, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. The bed could definitely hold its own! Bed-1, Husky-0. So now fast forward a few months, and the bed is still standing, in literal PERFECT condition! I am in awe. Then...it happened. I found out that my girl was pregnant...with 6 puppies. During her pregnancy, she calmed down a lot and the bed got a well-deserved rest (it would learn to cherish this time later). Toward the end of her pregnancy, she began nesting...on the bed. She dug intensely and furiously, determined to dig a hole worthy of her coming puppies. Still it the bed was unphased. Finally, the joyous moment came, and all 6 puppies were here. At first, it wasn't too bad for the bed, with only the occasional microscopic amount of newborn puppy pee. But as the weeks went on, the puppies grew bigger and bigger...and so did their teeth. Now, on top of their need to relieve themselves literally everywhere, they began to develop an uncontrollable need to chew. They began to rain husky puppy destruction down on the whole house, including, you guessed it, the bed. Door frames-0, Husky Puppies-3. Bedroom Carpets-0, Husky Puppies-2. Socks-0, Husky Puppies-10. Shirts-0, Husky Puppies-6. They were relentless! No opponent could withstand their attacks. That is, except for the bed! You see, this bed, this bed is a champion! It's as if Chuck Norris took himself and created this bed in his image. The puppies unleashed attack after attack of pee and poo. They tore at it with their razor-sharp teeth, shaking their heads vigorously. But it was like the bed was invincible. It had an impenetrable shield. Husky nesting-0, Bed-Infinite wins. Puppy pee and poo-0, Bed-Infinite wins. Puppies razor teeth-0, Bed-Infinite wins. After all the battles this bed has won over the last several months, it came out without a scratch! It still looks brand new (see pictures)! The only thing I have done is washed and dried it. It is incredibly easy to take apart and put back together. When I did have to wash it, I only ever had to run it through a wash cycle once to remove any mess. Even with everything it's been through, there is not a single stain on the fabric/material, and none of it has ever frayed. It is the most durable material I have ever witnessed while still being SO soft! There have never been any strings that broke. The padding is very fluffy, and so far, has not lost even an ounce of fluffiness. It does not sink and create a "crater" where your dog lays. When I say this is a very well-made product, well worth your money, that is an understatement! I also have two other dogs (Husky and Mini Dachshund), so 9 total (8 of them Huskies), and they all rotate in and out of this bed constantly, literally 24/7 at least one of the nine is almost always laying in it. The large size bed has been more than perfect for all nine dogs. The female (45 pounds) is smaller, so her and about two puppies (at 20 pounds) fit in it comfortably. However, my male is large (over 55 pounds) and he is definitely more comfortable in the bed by himself. This bed is the perfect bed for all dogs. But if your dog is anything like all of mine, active and destructive, and annihilates any bed you set before them, look no further, for in this bed, you have found your champion!
Tempur Pedic for Dogs! This is basically a tempur pedic bed for dogs. We have two pit bulls about 45-55lbs which we initially ordered the medium size. Total mistake as the beds were way too small so we ended up returning for a large. Go a size bigger if you’re unsure. Pay attention to the measurement details because the inner portion of the bed has its own dimensions. My dogs instantly jumped on these beds and very much enjoy laying on them. The bed came wrapped inside a tight plastic and rolled up and inflated itself. It does have an initial smell of plastic which goes away in just a few hours. Would definitely purchase again!
Comfortable but sheds A LOT. I purchased the small size for my 11 pound Chiweenie The size was perfect for her and there is room for my 6 pound Min Pin to lay down next to her too. The bed itself seems really comfortable and my dogs really like it, so it's probably a great bed for some dogs, but unfortunately it sheds really bad. My Chiweenie likes to "dig" at her bed for a minute before she lays down and whenever she does this, pieces of fluff from the bedding get EVERYWHERE. From all of the "fur" on my pillows, blankets, and floor, it now looks like I own a large, fluffy, white dog. I tried vacuuming the bed to see if that would help, but it did not. I'm hesitant to wash it because I don't want the fluff to get all over my washing machine too. This would be a great bed if your dog lays down right away, but for anyone who owns a dog that likes dig at their bed before laying down, this will just make a huge mess in your house.
Sent back the next day -Hard as nails. The product arrived today and it took me 1/2 hour to unpackage and insert the "memory foam". Once I did I felt it and it felt cold and damp. My dog did not like it and prefers her old bed. I waited a few hours and then had her get back on the bed. She laid there for less than a minute and then went back to her old bed. I then had her get in my lap for awhile and once she got down she choose the old bed again. The description states "The base memory foam provide the ultimate sleep experience with superior comfort". This is most definitely either false advertising (as it did not feel like memory foam to me either) or a defective product. Regardless, I am returning the bed and looking for another one for her. (Hers is over 6 years old and has lost most of its padding.) I tried sitting in it and found it damp and uncomfortable. Definitely NOT something I'd want to sleep on!
Those 5 star reviews are bogus I'm sure. Horrible product. Don't buy this this. Go to your local pet store and find something you can see and feel. This product is WAY overpriced, a complete con. Purchased two, would like to return both. One I am definitely going to ask for a refund on as the thermapedic foam mattress has not inflated and so is about an inch and a half thick. (The other one has inflated to about 4 inches.) China (where these come from) also has another idea of what "medium" and "large" means where dogs are concerned. And the smell! Toxic fumes. The instructions state that these items should be placed in a well-ventilated area for a few days, so that tells you all you need to know. Also, he bolster is too soft, doesn't provide support, I expected a good product for the price and really, these things can be picked up at a discount store someplace for $15. Terrible. Hope this helps others to not get cheated.
Nicely made, but scent is strong and the foam isn't as thick as I wanted. It was made with quality. The side bolsters are nice and not too fluffy. About 2 inches thick. I thought that the base would be a thick memory foam. Its not. It is only about 3 inches. I was hoping for 5-7. But the product was as not detailed. Its nicely made though so I didn't want to return it. One thing I don't like. The smell of the foam.....I've had this air out for two weeks already and it still has a strong odor. I ordered my memory foam beds through amazon. The smell is expected. But my own king-sized mattresses aired out within a day. The scent is still strong.
Bed came installed differently than last time. The media could not be loaded. I've purchased these beds twice before and they've been pretty good each time I've bought it. This third time that I received my new one, the pillow that goes around the bed was already installed so it's incredibly soft and weak. The old ones would have it separate so you would install it yourself and it'd be pretty hard in the bed. In the video I showed the difference between the new soft one and the old hard one.
Hard to Prepare for Wash. First off, my dog loved this bed. This was the bed we kept in her crate for months. The only issue with it was just how difficult it was to take apart every time we wanted to wash it. She puked, pissed, and pooped in it often, (traumatized rescue dog, has anxiety, crate stays open 90% of the time) which made for an annoying cleanup. The zipper for the surrounding wall is on the inside of the bed. This means, if your dog had an accident, there is a good chance your hands and arms are going to get some of the questionable fluids too. wear gloves. It was incredibly difficult to remove and replace the mattress, as the opening isn't exactly the right size. Zipping the inside takes forever because the zipper gets caught on every little piece of fuzz, the inside of itself, and it has a hard time making its way around the corners. They really should have put the zipper on the outside. We had enough after the last accident, and threw it away.
