  • Question 1: How to get the cameras working?
  • Answer: With the power from IEEE802.3af PoE switch/injector (NOT included) via one CAT5,6, or 7 ethernet cable (up to 330ft, two 1m/3.3ft cables included), you could set up and access each camera via Reolink App, Reolink PC client, or web browser (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, Safari).
  • Question 2: Will these work with the Reolink NVR or system?
  • Answer: Yes, they do. Reolink NVRs with the hardware version of N2MB02/H3MB18/N3MB01 support the smart detection/playback for the RLC-820A. You can verify the compatibility via the System Information of the NVR.
  • Question 3: Are the cameras compatible with third-party software/System/NVR?
  • Answer: The RLC-820A IP cameras can be added to some third-party software/NVR such as Blus Iris or Synology. But currently, we could only ensure the full compatibility between this camera and the Reolink NVR/software.

Pros & Cons

Good camera for use with Zoneminder. Solid camera, it has plenty of light from the night LEDs that have a photocell that controls them to light up the scene I posted. Picture quality is very good, true 4k with high frame rates if you want to do that. It's possible to turn off the IR leds from the camera. Works with the latest firmware from Reolink however you must go into advanced network settings in the camera and turn on the port access that you are using. Audio is also available from a phone jack on the camera and the cam will work on non-poe port with 12v power. Does not require excessive PoE power. One thing I really liked a lot is that while the camera body is plastic the mounting plate the camera goes on is cast aluminum. Did not try messing with the motion detection and pet exclusion settings in the latest firmware.

Great Cameras. These cameras are excellent. I use a mix of these (RLC-820As) and the lower resolution variation, the RLC-520A at 5MP, and both are great. I'm using them with the 16-port NVR. The advantage of mixing the 820As with the 520As is that you can maximize 1) the load on the NVR and 2) storage requirements by only putting the 8MP/4K ones where you really need the extra resolution (e.g., front of house vs. sides with few/no windows). (Re #1, I originally bought all 8 MP cameras and the Reolink 16-port NVR but the NVR started bogging down -- by switching to a mix of 8MP and 5MP cameras is seems to be doing fine with a current total of 12 cameras, 4 8MP and 8 5MP.) And, I just put the latest firmware on all my cameras and the "Smart Human/Vehicle Detection" is continuing to improve and get better! Would be nice if the field of view was slightly wider, but in general I'm very happy.

Nice image, poor implementation. Nice image but the only thing that seems to support it is its web interface. Update : After having these installed for a few months, I found that using the Reolink app works fairly decent, plus it integrates well with Synology Surveillance Station which its fantastic for capturing the company logo of "cold callers" who refuse to acknowledge "No Soliciting" signs

Pretty good quality. Love them, they send out movement notifications to my phone pretty quickly and record spot on, only complain is that car license plate is pretty much unreadable at night, I have night mode set up with infrared lights off because the reflect all the light from license plate when on.

Excellent price for a pair of 4k security camera! Excellent cameras for home security. Records clear video and good night visions capability. Lots of settings that you can customize to your liking. I have had this pair of cameras for almost 2 months and no issues so far. Pretty happy for what I paid for.

The cameras are great. The cameras are awesome, and the picture quality is amazing. I wish they had Google Home option for NVR cameras.

Not what you will expect. At first glance, Reolink appeared to have a great solution with superior features and great quality gear. That's where it stopped. Here are the comments provided to Reolink upon returning all their gear: 1. First and foremost, I don’t have time to spend tinkering with your support work-arounds for every little function which is stated as part of the system … UNACCETPABLE! I have a full time job that consumes 10 to 14 hours of my day. 2. From what I’ve found, your reference material is scattered, unorganized and incomplete in most cases. Thus the continued support work-arounds … UNACCETPABLE to wait 24 hours for your team to respond only during CN time zone. 3. The functions within the older Client App 7.x version are NOT in the newer 8.x version period. This seriously degrades your system solution to a mere IoT toy and not a serious security system which is presented … UNACCETPABLE! 4. Camera Volume is turned up on all places, turned on in the admin settings as stated in the blog, not in operational material and yet no sound on ANY client app. Audio only to the main console is UNACCEPTABLE! There was a reference which indicated I may have to log into the camera itself to get audio – again UNACCETPABLE! 5. Access to the SD Cards installed in each of the 16 cameras was not found ANY WHERE on your site. In our one conversation, it was implied that I would need to create an FTP login to the camera to access … UNACCETPABLE! 6. Each of these functions / features should be baked into your client application for all platforms to enable the customer to access at their pace and device. This can be simple facilitated by offering two switchable on-the-fly App modes, where one is the simply the camera view only with minimal controls based on camera. Second would be the EXPERT mode which provides more in dept details to manage the camera settings. The both mode should be aligned with an Admin account and the, the simple view align with General User account. This is NOT the case….ADMIN login via client app offers no real difference to GENERAL user account. On the positive side, I found Reolink equipment to be of high quality and if the presumed functionality was fully available at EVERY client, it would exceed all competitors as I initially thought based on the information provided. Its very sad that what you say you provide and what you actually provide are not aligned. Had they been, we wouldn’t have had any issues. Currently your engineering capability to build the devices has far exceeded your business operations capability to sustain this level of quality in software, documentation and overall global support. I will add that their support team is very pleasant and want to help. Its a shame, as I had high hopes.

terrible motion capture. This camera seemed great at first, if it has good lighting and no motion it produces very clear images. And setup was reasonably easy. But then I walked by the camera in the dark, and the results would be great for a movie about a haunted house. While the background remained fairly sharp even in the dark, the image of me moving was a semi-transparent blur. You couldn't even be sure there was a human, much less who it was or what gender. After some reading, I have learned that this brand handles low light conditions by greatly dropping it's shutter speed, resulting in very blurry images of anything that moves. The higher resolution actually makes it worse(I also got a 5mp version of this which is not quite as bad) because each pixel is smaller so it gets less light and needs a longer exposure to get enough. I spent too long trying to figure out what was going on, and got distracted by life for a few weeks, so it's too late to return it. I guess I'll set it up watching my garden, with no motion the images are nice and sharp, so I can remotely check out how my plants are doing.

Did not meet expectation. Was unable to get the camera to stream in H.265.

Consider these a disposable item. These cameras last about 2-3 months tops. They just completely stop working and tech support has no solutions for you. If I hadn’t committed to the entire reolink system, I wouldn’t bother with them anymore. They work great WHEN they work but then one day, they just stop. Go for a better system, you’ll thank me later.

Probably the worst /most sensitive system. I previously bad night owl cameras which were much more reliable. These cameras pick up every fly, insect, spec of dust and alert you all day with nonsense false motion detection. Even on the lowest sensitivity setting it alerts you for everything. Every fly every bird, every speck of dust that flies by this camera it’s going to alert you… you’ll wake up to 75 notifications over and over. Phone goes off constantly. It’s just not effective

Dome cams need's to be manually moved. Picture quality is great. I dont regret my purchase. I just wish it would say you need to manually move it if you want to rotate the camera.
