Professional-grade movements and features in a portable package. More common uses than Pocket 2S. Last summer, I took a look at the Feiyu Pocket and how it compared to the industry-leading DJI Osmo Pocket. Both promised a revolutionary way to take vlogging to the next level by combining a wide-angled action camera with a gimbal for smooth, portable videos. The Feiyu gave the DJI "a run for its money with more included accessories and features for a much lower price." I then added that its performance was not as fast in some areas, but that most people would not know the difference. Fast-forward to the end of 2021, and Feiyu released a successor with the Pocket 2 and Pocket 2S. The latter caught my eye the most with its ability to have the camera detached and mounted elsewhere. I originally bought and reviewed the Pocket 2S, but its limited use cases made me long more for the Pocket 2. In this review, I will mainly compare the Feiyu Pocket 2S with the Pocket 2 and Pocket. WHY A POCKET GIMBAL? A coworker once told me shortly after I became a first-time dad, that my Canon 5D Mark IV DSLR would probably be used less than the smartphone. He was absolutely right! I had been finding myself taking out my phone more times to capture moments of my children's lives than a bulky, professional camera. It boiled down to what was always carried with me and how fast recording could be started. For those very same reasons, a pocket-sized gimbal camera is more easily available and convenient to shoot with than trying to physically stabilize a DSLR or smartphone with breathing, holding, and moving techniques -- and potentially missing or ruining the moment. The Feiyu and DJI Pocket cameras were designed for convenience, traveling, and vlogging to achieve beautiful, smooth videos from devices that can easily fit in one's pocket. COMPARISON SUMMARY: FEIYU VS DJI POCKET MODELS DJI holds the advantage with its superior image quality and smoother stabilization, but the Feiyu becomes a compelling choice with its value proposition, feature set, and included accessories that DJI charges extra for. The Feiyu Pocket 2S is unique with its magnetic, detachable camera head that can be mounted to anything metallic, opening doors to creative use cases like attaching onto a helmet or car while maintaining remote control. If one card fails, you won't lose everything - Material feels, looks, and is packaged professionally - Built-in Battery lasts about 3.5-4.5 hours, depending on recording mode -- Rechargeable via USB (including battery banks) -- Can be charged while in its protective case - Built-in 1/4" tripod mount (DJI charges extra for this) - Underwater case available for diving up to 130'/40m CONS - Camera is not detachable like its Pocket 2S sibling, but that also makes the Pocket 2 more compact and less prone to accidents - HDMI output is NOT built-in like the Pocket 2S -- Pocket 2S can have its videos/photos be viewed on the TV/projector in real-time. Pocket 2 nor DJI have this ability - Image quality and low-light performance, though good, trails DJI's Pocket 2 -- DJI Pocket 2 is more crisp and has higher, dynamic range - Stabilization works very well, but slightly lags behind DJI's Pocket 2 - Electronic zoom is not very good. In fact, optical zoom is always better - Object tracking is only available through the Feiyu Cam app and does not work quite well - Still images are only 12MP (DJI's Pocket 2 is 64MP) - Battery not replaceable - Not waterproof or water resistant, though an underwater case is available - Camera tucks away when powered off, ready for safe keeping in the protective case. However, the axes don't lock in place. You'll have to hold the camera steady to properly put it into the case - Similar naming between DJI and Feiyu makes it cumbersome to refer to any particular model (ie. "Pocket 2" - are we talking about DJI's or Feiyu's?) Feiyu, according to its website, specializes in "video stabilization technology [and] research" and carries a product portfolio for action cameras, smartphones, and still cameras. The Guilin, China, based company was founded in 2007 and originally focused on drone and automation industries, including "flight stabilization systems [and] autopilots" (Source: Wikipedia). This may be where "Fei" in "Feiyu" came from: it translates to "Flying" in Chinese. FINAL THOUGHTS The Feiyu Pocket 2 ends up being my favorite of the company's newest models. While the Pocket 2S has an extendable, detachable camera with HDMI output, its use cases are limited and makes it bulkier than the Pocket 2. After all, the selling feature of a "pocket gimbal" is that it can be easily carried around in a pocket for quick shoots, and for that, the Pocket 2 excels over its 2S sibling. The Feiyu Pocket 2 series adds an improved imaging sensor and greater field of view (130 degrees, compared to DJI Pocket 2's 93 degrees) so more of a scene could be captured with better image quality and low-light performance. Nonetheless, Feiyu still trails DJI in image quality, low-light recording, and (to a lesser degree) stabilization.Feiyu makes up for the lower -- but still quite good -- image quality and performance by baking features built-in that DJI would charge you for: WiFi, Tripod mount, Joystick control, and built-in speakers for on-device video playback with sound. Ultimately, the decision seems to come down to the same conclusion that I had between the Feiyu Pocket and DJI Osmo Pocket: price vs performance. Choose the DJI for better image quality and low-light shooting, or get the Feiyu for better value with decently good videos. Once that choice has been made, it then comes down to whether you find the Pocket 2S's detachable camera useful for your unique shooting needs. Both the Pocket 2 and Pocket 2S can magnetically be attached to metal objects for some neat shooting scenarios. For me, the 2S has compelling value with mounting the camera on top of my car roof while driving around and being able to direct the lens from inside the vehicle, but I ultimately prefer the Feiyu Pocket 2 for its more compact size. This (along with the Breakpoint Shooting feature) enabled epic videos where I did not have to edit much. For day-to-day recording, I would gravitate more towards either the Feiyu Pocket 2 or DJI Pocket 2 because they are more compact.
Very creative pocket gimbal design. Been a professional photographer for almost 10 years, and started doing some video work about 2 years ago. Mostly doing some youtube, instagram, social media and product videos. I find myself switching between pocket size gimbal camera and action camera when I am shooting something fun on location or traveling. When the Feiyu Pocket 2s was announced, I was super excited. A hybrid pocket camera and action camera!!! I have to get one. Finally got one, been and used it for about a week so far. - Detachable gimbal camera head - 3 axis gimbal - Face tracking - Built-in magnets both on the head, and the body - Up to 4k 60P, 1080P 120P - Joystick - 130 degree wide angle lens Those are some great features for a Vlog, social media, traveling camera. Feiyu finally got face tracking on their pocket size camera now. They didn’t have this feature on their 1st pocket camera. Which is a very important feature, very useful when walking around and trying to focus on someone’s face. I have tested the face tracking a bit, it does the job. Might not be perfect yet, sometimes when I do some fast movements, the face tracking will lose the subject that was tracking, and can’t find it back. It’s not perfect yet, but at least Feiyu is finally getting there. Built-in joystick, which makes things so much easier. I can’t make some fine movements with the joystick any time when I need to. I don’t need to worry about plugging in the joystick, taking it off, losing it at all. It’s permanently on there, and I can use it whenever I want. I don’t need to worry about losing it, or looking for a place to safely store it. Detachable gimbal head, this is a brand new idea that I have never seen on any other pocket cameras before. Makes it almost like a pocket gimbal, action camera hybrid. Now I can just detach the head, and stick it on the hood of my car, or stick it on the body of my bike, ready to film any time. NO additional accessories, attachment or mount needed. It’s got a strong magnet on the base of the gimbal head, and another magnet on the actual body of the device. So you can safely attach it to any magnet-able metal. There is a cable that connects the body and the gimbal head, it’s roughly about 3 feet long. That allows me to fully control the gimbal head even when detached from the body. So far I really like this innovative feature. Making it super easy to capture video from different angles, without any additional tools or accessories. One thing that annoys me a little is how the cable is stored, or wrapped around the stick. I wish they had designed something that was easier to store the cable, less messy. Also the cable is a bit thick, so it's not super flexible to bend and shape when needed. Not a big deal, since the magnet is super strong. But if they would’ve used some of those super thin cables, it might make it easier to manipulate, and store as well. So far I like those new features on the pocket 2s. Will be adding it to my traveling bag for sure. Let’s see how often and how long I will be using the pocket 2s.
Best all around camera. If you are like me and have no idea what kind of camera to buy. This is definitely the one you should try. It has a ton of features that will help you take stable images and videos. It can shoots videos from 1080p to 4k 60 fps. More specifically [1080]20fps, 30fps, 40,fps, 60fps. [2.5k] 20fps, 30fps, 40,fps, 60fps. [4k]20fps, 30fps, 40,fps, 60fps. Pro-mode, follow mode. Motion detection is pretty good. Slow motion, And the feyiucam app is easy to use. The tripod and build materials are great.

DON'T BUY THIS POCKET 2S A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. Very poor quality video in all settings, a waste of money.
hdmi port useless (in case you got excited there finally is a gimbal cam with hdmi). Got the Pocket 2s camera from Feiyutech via the Indiegogo campaign which in itself deserves a minus 5 stars review if it was possible, but that is a different story. As for the actual camera: I hope no-one go excited about the hdmi port which could have been a game changer for IRL streaming via hdmi to an encoder because.... that port is just for show. It does NOT support AUDIO. Should you find a use for video only (maybe an external monitor??), just know that connecting an hdmi cable makes the camera screen go black and you CANNOT SEE WHAT YOU ARE FILMING. Pretty impressive oversight given the fact you are supposed to separate the lens/gimbal and camera handle for innovative shots. Thought of instead using the App to preview and control what you are trying to capture? Joke is on you as the iOS app doesn't even allow moving the gimbal, the joystick part of the app is greyed out and cannot be selected. Feiyutech does not reply to check if a firmware update could make the hdmi port usable. They also don't reply on how to send the camera back (again, this is the Indiegogo version) so should you decide to get this camera, absolutely make sure to doublecheck the seller's return policy because Feiyutech seems to have none !!!!!
