Pros & Cons

Pros

Superb action camera for a reasonable price point. The media could not be loaded. I already own the Akaso EK7000, and have been impressed with the balance of features/price. The EK7000 was my very first action camera, and I've had a great time using it to record biking adventures. Although I've been happy with the EK7000, I decided to upgrade, and I'm glad I did. This camera is just awesome. The video quality is very good, and with EIS, it actually exceeds my expectations for a camera at this price. I've clipped a small piece of video from a short ride around my neighborhood. As this video is uploading as I write this, I can't be sure the quality will match the source media on my SSD, but to my eye, the quality is just amazing. I worked for many years in broadcast television as a videographer/editor in the creative services departments for ABC, CBS, and FOX (entertainment division!), so I'm used to handling professional equipment, and to me, for pure enjoyment, this little camera gives me exactly what I want. I couldn't be more pleased.

Great quality for the cost! - Updated. My daughter and I are going on our first scuba diving experience together and we wanted to document our excursion. We both wanted an action camera, but didn't want to pay for two GoPros. So, she got a GoPro 7 Black and I got the Akaso Brave 7 LE. While there are some minor differences in picture/video quality between the GoPro and the Akaso, I prefer the Akaso. I tested both at 1080P30 because that setting had the best battery life for the GoPro. The video quality was very good on the Akaso, but the GoPro was a bit sharper...but for the price of the Akaso, I can live with quality of the Akaso's video. I also noticed that the battery life was much, much better on the Akaso. Plus, you get two batteries and a charger included with the package. To get an extra battery and charger for the GoPro would be an additional $35. I love that for $139 I received a camera that is great, lots of accessories including the dive housing! (I had to pay extra to get the dive housing for the GoPro.) So far I love the Akaso Brave 7 LE camera and would recommend it to anyone looking for an entry level action camera! 8/24/20 - My daughter and I just went on a second dive trip to practice our skills....in Lake Denton in Sebring, FL. Again, she took her GoPro 7 Black and I took the Akaso Brave 7 LE. The depth in this lake was deeper than on our first dive. At 45 feet down the red is filtered out of the light, so I thought this would be perfect to test the true capabilities of the dive setting on the Akaso. My daughter does not have a red filter for her Go Pro, so I was comparing her regular video/pictures with the Akaso with the dive setting on. To be honest, the colors from the Go Pro were much more vibrant than the Akaso with the dive setting turned on. However, the images from the Akaso were still crisp and clear. I just had to add in the red with my video editing software. Just an extra step I am willing to do for the difference in price for the Akaso Brave 7 LE versus the Go Pro 7 Black. The Akaso is easy to use, even in the dive housing. Battery life is still superior in the Akaso. And I have images/video to document our dive!

You Will Not Find A Better Compact Action Camera At This Price Point! While this was my first action camera purchase I have been a photographer for over 40 years. Twin lens reflex, SLR, D-SLR and now an AKASO compact action camera. I was looking for something to strap on a drone for higher resolution photos and videos than what I was getting from the camera that came with my drone. An additional bonus for me is the waterproof case. When I was talking about cameras I forgot to mention my dedicated dive cameras and housings both SLR and D-SLR. When I saw the great price I started reading the reviews and decided to take a chance. Man did I hit the jackpot, this little guy does everything as advertised. I have only had it for a day and it has already been flying. I will be diving with it in a couple of weeks and will post an update.

Great Value...Would purchase again. The media could not be loaded. It starts with an awesome presentation with the packaging and a note from the manufacturing thanking them you for the purchase. THe housing of the unit is constructed of more hardy and durable materials that would in my mind be equal to a gopro.. Many of the alternative products to gopro tend to have a weak exterior with doors being very easily broken. It just feels better in the hand and perception of quality manufacturing/design. The quality of video and pictures are very well done. The interface is very simple to use on the screen. If you are using this for "selfie" mode, it has 2 screens and one is for seeing what you are filming direct facing the lens. It comes with 2 batteries and a charge stand that can do 2 charges at one time. There is also a wrist controller that an start/stop video or pictures. If you are looking for quality, ease of use, durability, and great value. This is good for you.

Very happy so far update 8/30/20. I purchased the Akaso Brave 7 LE to film my kayak fishing trips. I have the Akaso EK7000, this camera will take its place as my main camera. I was looking for a camera that provides excellent video, sound, and is water resistant without a case. First off, I was surprised by the feel of this camera, it feels like it built solid. It doesn’t have that cheap feel that most action cameras have. I’ve used this camera at 1080p 60fps so far. In my opinion the video quality is better than the EK7000, and comparable to my GoPro Session. Sound was the big selling point for me. The internal mic on the Brave 7 LE was able to pick up my voice at acceptable levels for me, and did a much better job than the EK7000 while in it’s waterproof case. The front screen is an added bonus, I’m now able to make sure I’m in frame while recording. The Brave 7 LE has a number of features that I’ll be trying out in the future. Overall I think this is a great little camera for a great price. Update 8/30/20. I’ve used the Brave 7 LE multiple times now and it has served its purpose without issue. I run it off of a battery pack in my Kayak and it takes great video with more than acceptable sound. I’m very happy with this purchase.

Should you buy this action camera? Is it any good? | Honest Opinion Coming Up. You know how you go to the grocery store looking for mayonnaise and they are out of your favorite brand, but you see--what you consider--an off-brand and say, "Either my family will have to go without deviled eggs or I can get this"? It's nerve wracking. Mayo, especially in the South, is sacred. If you mess up grandma's potato salad, your goose is cooked. So, you close your eyes, say a quick prayer, and buy it hoping that it stands up to scrutiny. That's how I felt buying Akaso. I had never heard of them. Would they be like a mayo past its best-by date? I didn't even have any coupons and they were cheaper than the "name brand." My wallet was a-tingling with trepidation. My stomach was churning worse than after eating a tuna-fish sandwich after being left in the car all day in the middle of July. I took the plunge and purchased it. The Brave 7 was a Christmas present for my son. He had specifically requested a GP and is extremely picky. He looked at, plugged it in, and has never looked back. He really, really likes it. The action camera has outperformed our expectations. From included accessories to build quality to ease of use, it has been great. We love it. The included 'watch' is really cool. You use it to control the camera. We went from being skeptical to being fans of this brand. I can't find anything wrong with it. Back to my first love--mayo. There is nothing better than eating a mayo and tomato sandwich........while being filmed on an Akaso. They go hand-in-hand.

Cons

Not Impressed At This Time - REVISITED and REVISITED AGAIN - Disappointed with Akaso. 7 Aug 2020 I expected this new camera to be heads above the Akaso V50x I've enjoyed. Took it out this morning to test out video - 1080p 30fps, on a trail ride. Upon getting home and uploading the video, very disappointed in quality. The edges of the videos were constantly blurry (with EIS turned on). The device seemed to have to "catch up" with the video in sections. Not what I explained based on the V50x abilities. Going to try it tomorrow on a ride, if it still happens; going back and ordering another V50x! 8 Aug 2020 - Update on the camera. Took it out for 4 hours on a trail ride. Used various resolution settings to test the video blurriness or "catch-up". I installed a V50x on the handlebars for comparison. Frankly there is no comparison. The Brave 7 LE 4K30FPS does not compare! After the ride the camera gear was placed back into original packing and returned for a refund. Save your time and effort, perhaps I got a defective unit, but the weight of the new camera is 2 ounces heavier, which may not seem much but when helmet mounted, it is significant. Disappointed with the new camera. Update - 23 Dec 2020: Received a Akaso Brave 7 LE camera for testing and review. While the video quality is drastically better, the audio has gone the other direction. Three days on trails and level ground, audio is horrible; barely audible when standing still, and immediately upon pedaling there is so much additional noise it is a useless video/audio. Camera does not live up to the quality it should have. Update - 7 Jan 2021 Prior to Akaso sending another camera to test they sent me a note: "To bring you a perfect experience, we would like to send you a 30 USD gift card .Would you mind updating a 5 star rating for us or just deleting the review?" I responded I could not do either - a high rating or deleting my review. I was then contacted after testing: "I would send you 2 new V50X cameras, does it work for you? If you are satisfied with my customer service.Would you please help us just delete your comment." Not deleting any of my comments and experience with their Brave 7 LE Not going to play Akaso's game!! Will go to other manufacturers!!

Love the camera Hate the software. Update: The company contacted me to help resolve the issue. Awesome customer service. I will update with final resolution to the issue. I love this camera. It takes wonderful pictures and videos. It was very easy to use. It was sturdy. I spent all day at the springs recording videos and taking pictures. The battery lasted all day. I would buy it again. Why did I give it 2 stars? The software. I tried watching the videos on my phone using the WiFi at the springs and it kept buffering. The pictures loaded but the videos just buffered every few second. When I came home, I tried on my iPad. I had the same issue. I have emailed the company on their website and I am waiting for a response. I will update the review when I receive a response from the company.

No image stabilization, horrible image quality. At first I was so excited seeing all the accessories. I tried out the basic functions at home. Now, here on my beautiful trip in Utah/ Arizona hoping to take videos of hiking and kayaking I realized that the image stabilization is not worth crap!!!! I have never seen shakier videos than these. I can take better one with my phone. Also the image quality is horrible. I am surrounded by pink and orange mountains and this camera washes everything out - and I tried all the settings. Again, my iPhone 6 takes much nicer images, picture or video. I am pretty upset because I needed an action camera with the image stabilization - that was the most important and now I can't do all the videos I wanted. I won't say it ruined my trip but it did ruin a part of it. It is cheaper than a GoPro and I guess it's true, you get what you pay for

Huge amount of mediocre stuff. I wanted to use this camera to record video while cycling. It is not suitable for that. Many people will like this camera. I am not one of them. Pros: Large selection of low quality mounts. Good user interface - easy to configure Useful remote control Nice waterproof case Good build quality Good image stabilization Cons: Constantly incorrect exposure Poor low-light performance Screen switches off after 60 seconds and unable to tell if it's still recording or even on. Mounts will not hold the camera in place while cycling The deal breaker for me was that to mount it on the handlebar requires the handlebar mount, a 90 degree adapter, and the camera in the waterproof case. This is heavy and the slightest bump had the camera pointing up at the sky. I tightened the mounts as much as I dared (it's all plastic) but could not fix the problem. I tried using the screw mount but that was even worse and the camera quickly swung to the side no matter how hard I tightened the locking nut. The attached photos were taken with the waterproof case on. You can see the external photo is overexposed and the internal one is grainy.

Get what you pay for. So this camera was ok for the price. I should have known you get what you pay for. Although the camera did not outright suck for the price I did expect a little more out of it. If you are a picky person and pays attention to the little things then this camera is not for you. I would buy this for a teenager ir someone else but not for me. Pros: 1 Rugged very well built and designed for the price Not cheap at all, 5 stars on that! 2 All the accessories you could ever want! Almost. Including waterproof case! Although wish threaded fingers mount or tripod mount was in the center of camera. 3 Super easy to use the text is big enough for people like me horrible eyesight to actually read. 4 Daytime video quality even at 1080 is pretty good out of the box 5 Ready to go right out of box. 6 Battery life is great! Got 1.5 hour’s continuous recording of softball games. 7 Downloading files to phone using spp is actually pretty fast way better than GoPro, However see con #3. Now for the cons 1 Nighttime recording not good at all. Even recording games with fields lit up. Has a weird greenish tone to picture even after trying to pro-tune it. Just not good at sll. 2 The APP Is HORRIBLE not even customer support knew how to use it. Apparently developed by 3rd party and AKASO does not really know anything about it. I use the app most of the time in order to control the camera. Using the app you cannot control zoom in or out, cannot flip phone horizontally to het better view of what you are recording. Making clips of videos using app is almost impossible no instructions anywhere and user interface is confusing at best. 3 App downloading to your phone sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. At one point I managed to get 4 files on my phone but have no idea how. Tried repeating same steps and it says complete but when you go to your gallery nothing there snd have to start over again. 4 When downloading files DO NOT exit the app at sll. Your files will stop and you will have to start all over. 5 Remote wristband to stop and start recording. Horrible absolute zero range. I was 6 feet directly behind the camera and it had difficulty picking up signal and thats because I had to turn my wrist and point directly at camera. Overall as I said its ok for a kid or someone you really don’t care how they like it. If it was a little cheaper or if the app worked better had zoom in and out and able to orient as I turn my phone I could have lived with it. In the end went back to the Gopro 7 black. Hope this helps.

Portable Action Camera Decent for Daylight Use. I bought this device planning to record action videos day and night, including audio/sound record. I tested it out tonight, had to download the manual since it only comes with a quick start one which isn't real helpful. The download manual is good, but not accurate where audio/sound quality is concerned, and yes I made sure the waterproof case was not on it when recording audio because the directions do state there is no sound recording with the water proof case. Initial impressions are it's decent for daylight action recordings but the touch screen is really sensitive and it stops recording intermittently. I've verified I have all the correct settings for recording but instead of one hour long video I have anywhere from 9 min to 19 minute recordings. The audio is clearer on a few, but messed up on others without any reason. The device has a "shade" setting for low light areas, but using the "auto" or "shade" setting at night doesn't help, and the video quality outside is poor without a flashlight or artificial lighting source. I checked out the app thinking it would be nice to use my phone to sync videos and such but the app contains some crazy agreement language stating you agree to give it access to private information including your e-mail and bank account...umm no thank you! I did not agree and removed it ASAP. Overall I had higher hopes based on other reviews for this device. It will work for daytime clips where audio is not critical, and might be decent to give your kids some exposure using the device before upgrading to one capable of recording decent sound quality and night vision.
