Boost Whole Home Wi-Fi with Your Existing Router A single router has limited Wi-Fi coverage and always causes Wi-Fi dead zones. RE550 wirelessly connects to your existing router and expands its Wi-Fi signal into areas it can’t reach on its own. Enjoy your stable network experience wherever you are at home. Faster Dual Band Wi-Fi up to 1900 Mbps RE550 delivers dual band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) to transmit Wi-Fi signals, doubling the performance of each band. It enables you to keep more devices connected at the same time with its 600 Mbps 2.4 GHz and 1300 Mbps 5 GHz dual bands. Use the 2.4 GHz band to send email and browse the web and the 5 GHz band for gaming and HD streaming. Wi-Fi keeps Strongest for Unlimited Moving With TP-Link OneMesh Technology, it’s easy to form a wifi network with a single Wi-Fi name for seamless whole home coverage. Just connect RE550 to a OneMesh router. Always enjoy the strongest Wi-Fi when you’re walking around with no need to search around for a stable connection. Adaptive Path Selection: Keeps Itself Working at Top Speed Adaptive Path Selection keeps your network running at optimal speeds by automatically choosing the fastest connection path to the router. Always keep your devices fast and stable—ideal for network environments crowded with many devices and applications. High Speed Mode: Maximized Speed with Dedicated Backhaul Uses one dedicated Wi-Fi band as backhaul and another dedicated Wi-Fi band as an access point to maximize the bandwidth on the extended Wi-Fi. Built-In Access Point Mode RE550 is more than a wireless range extender. Simply plug an Ethernet cable into its Ethernet port and easily turn your wired internet connection into a 3×3 MIMO dual band wireless access point. Control at Your Fingertips Set up and manage your Wi-Fi through the TP-Link Tether app from your smartphone (Android, iOS), including TP-Link routers and range extenders.

Pros & Cons

Pros

Fulfills its duty and does it well! I've only had this for a little over a week so I cannot speak on its longevity yet (fingers crossed) but so far it has been performing extraordinarily well and has finally solved the dreaded problem of the WiFi dead spot. I only wish I had gotten it sooner and not believed in the misinformation that WiFi extenders are all junk (or at least the TP-Link AC1900 is definitely not). Got this set up and running within just a few minutes.. just connect to your existing router via app, plug it in an ideal location and voila! It really cannot get any simpler than that. Full signal from day one without any hiccups. It's worth mentioning that to fully optimize and take advantage of a WiFi extender it is crucial that you place it halfway between the router and the dead zone. I believe the key to having a positive experience with any WiFi extender (or really any product in general) is to understand what it can and cannot do. A WiFi extender is NOT going to be the panacea to all your WiFi problems. If what you need is to "milk" your WiFi signal just a bit further (ex: from one side of the house to to the other/from the first floor to the second floor/etc) then a WiFi extender may just be all you need. There are plenty of WiFi extenders alike on the market (both from reputable brands as well as generic ones) and from my experience TP-Link can always be trusted to deliver a phenomenal product. The specs are highly impressive and I am able to take advantage of my gigabit speeds (well technically not gigabit over WiFi but you get the point!). TLDR: It simply works! There isn't much else to say.

Great coverage, right out of the box. After reading all the negative reviews about the DOA units and the early failures I felt a little unsure about my purchase. I bought this new at a sale price so when I received it and began to set it up I was most pleasantly surprised. In defense of those who report horrible customer service issues with failed units, I can not speak of their complaints but will merely state that I have had no such issues because of no such failure so far. You can duplicate the ease I had in set up of this unit, by downloading the TP-link setup app "Tether" onto your mobile device before you even plug it in for the first time. Your Mobile device then needs to connect with the Extender's Wifi signal, NOT your home router signal to successfully set it up. I had no trouble in setting up this unit (multiple times on multiple routers to test) using the app, if one factory resets the Extender first on each setup. That said, I found this Extender (in default extender mode) more than capable to reach the corners of my home with a solid signal where as less expensive extenders had trouble connecting with a weak router signal in the middle of my home. The ability of an extender to function well is only as good as it's ability to pick up router signals of less than good strength and pass on a usable signal. I found this TP-Link extender to be very adequate in reception as well as sending out an extended signal to very place I needed it through some rather thick walls in my home. In brief, while I can not speak for the long term longevity of this unit, so far it has been most reliable over the 3-4 weeks of its final install. I am using the hard wire internet connection on the extender to create additional feed to an internet switch unit which allows some non Wifi units to also connect. Installation of that was totally transparent to set up and seems to operate well with those devices. This extender does allow you to rename the router signal if so required and is easily done through the app. In Brief: I attribute my positive results in good part to the easy to use app provided from the manufacturer as well as simply resetting the unit to default FIRST if you should ever move it to another router.

This Extender is Powerful and It Works. We recently moved into a 100-year-old bungalow with massive walls, 9' ceilings, thick plaster walls, and hot water radiator heat, meaning there is a lot of iron pipes everywhere throughout the house. The Comcast cable comes into the house in my 2nd floor office where it attaches to the modem. With the exception of my PC next to the router, there is no other internet wiring in the house so everything has to be wireless. Everything on the 1st and 2nd floors connected wirelessly with ease. The problem was that there is an apartment with concrete walls in the finished area of the basement and that's where we want to watch TV, mostly streaming like Netflix and Amazon Prime. That area was as close to zero internet connectivity as one can get. My download speed according to Ookla was 0.01 Mbps and upload was 0.00. I tried a couple different extenders and supposed superior routers. 0.01 download was the best I ever got until I tried Tp-Link AC1900 RE550. Set-up was easy and I placed the RE550 in a wall plug in the middle of the 1st floor. The attached pictures tell the whole story of my download going from 0.01 to 56.39 Mbps and upload from 0.00 to 41.83 Mbps. And I really like that I do not have to change the SSID and password and nothing has to change networks no matter where I take it.

Cons

OK 5 to 6 months wifi signal extender. I bought this product November 30 2021 . It stopped working May 2022. Just like many reviews mention it. I’m Not happy at all with this product . I contacted support but they go around bushes and want to keep me hours troubleshooting something that doesn’t work .they don’t want to admit your 2 year warranty at all. I ordered another extender from rockspace . A much better product . Never getting another TP link . Update : may 12,2022. I was contacted by their customer service after my bad review . I was offered a replacement . I had to do a lot of steps to do a simple replacement .create an account , Register the product , send back faulty unit and make sure to pick correct options to send it . No thanks !! Rockspace has much better wifi extenders. I still give them a 0 after support contacted me . I threw away $100 pretty much..

Works great, when it works. I have had this unit for only a few days and I am running into the same issue others have reported. It simply disconnects. All lights indicate its working fine, but I lose connection to it. Even the Tether app cannot find it. When I power off/on it reconnects. After a while it disconnects again. I cannot rely on this unit and thus will request for permission to return it. Sad, as when its working I have a strong signal and fast connection speed. But again, only while it lasts. Maybe its a compatibility issue with by router, a Zyxel C3000Z. I do not have disconnect issues with other wireless devices, though.

More trouble than it's worth, look elsewhere. Pros: easy to set up Cons: requires that you reconnect your devices daily The app frequently disconnects making management difficult, and for the last three days this unit has dropped my tv and smart speakers overnight. Every morning I have to power cycle my devices to get them to reconnect to the extender. I've even updated to the latest firmware with no improvement. I started working with customer service and tried to use Amazon's tech service portal but haven't gained much traction yet. My device is probably unreturnable as my spouse recycled the box the day after we set it up. I was looking for a product I could install and forget about but this requires too much daily interaction to be useful.
