Pros & Cons
Netgear Nighthawk. Netgear nighthawk cable modem worked great. Easy set up. Make sure to use the password on the modem to access it. I think a few of the reviews listed prior to my purchase may have been due to not being able to set it up correctly. I've had it over a month with no issues. Works great. Same internet speed, but a way better modem then I had before. The difference shows. Night and day difference. Didnt get paid to review or write this.
Nighthawk c7000v2 is the bests. If you’re looking for the best modem/router in the market today look no further, the Netgear Nighthawk is the answer. Super easy to install. The equipment is super fast.
Amazing. No internet lag while using multiple devices. Current provider Xfinity with 400mbps!
Easy to set up. Xfinity installer had the modem approved very quickly. Modem works great most of the time. Today I while working on the computer, wireless signal was lost. Looked at my phone and had ! next to WiFi icon, meaning Internet may not be available. Strange thing is Echo Dot played music through all the problems. Out of the box the modem works great. I live in a small condo and get great signals in each room. Testing signal on my Fire TV devices I am getting close to 170-190 Mbps each test. I would definitely buy this again instead of renting the modem from Comcast/Xfinity. I haven't contacted customer support yet for this modem. Once you click on a star you can't take it off.
admin password not reset with update. This is a renewed product which is understood it has been used before. Unfortunately, this also meant that amazon did not reset the unit back to factory settings and the admin password was not set to default. This, in turn, locked me out of the router and unable to control the functionality of the router/modem. Talking to amazon tech support, they recommended to return the unit and order another which I have done. If the next one has the same issue, I will be abandoning the 'renewed' option and going for the new. *Update* - I received the 2nd one of these and the product was entirely different. Whereas the first one was simply the router/modem and power cable thrown into a box, the 2nd one was resembling how I would have expected to received it almost new. Each component was individually wrapped with the OEM instruction guide, etc. Completely different experience and the product works flawlessly. Seems like a flip of the coin as to what you are going to get with renewed based on my experience but amazon return policy aids a bit with ease to return if you get a lemon.
Great Value. Nothing less then the new Wifi modem. Why buy a new device when you can find the refurbished cheaper price and same performance
Bad experience all around. I would stay away from refurbished items. You save some money but you also have a chance to get 2 bad modems/routers just like I did. The 1st one worked 2 weeks, the 2nd one about 5 weeks. The reason why this was such a frustrating experience is because the 2nd modem was already registered to someone else(based on what Netgear support told me when I called them) and it was out of the warranty time frame. Long story short, I called Amazon and even the technical support guy knew about these issues. My question is: why is Amazon selling modems that were previously registered putting out false information stating that the devices are renewed?
Completely nonfunctional on arrival. Got the first one and it wouldnt let me log on, it wouldnt even project a signal for me to log onto, and when we contacted customer service, they got us a replacement AND THAT ONE HAD THE SAME DAMN PROBLEM. Never buy a refurbished modem kids. its not worth it.
Ok. Not sure if me or the device but I spent a lot of time with tech support. I purchased so I would not have to rent, figuring would be fairly easy to set up, it was not. I am not at all experienced at this type of thing, been years since I purchased a router, so take that into account. I finally got it set up but for some reason it now kicks me off wifi on my ipad if I stop using the ipad for a few minutes. So basically every time I use my ipad have to reconnect, which is not a huge deal but annoying. Does not happen with my tv or phone, so not sure what that about. Not sure I would buy again, would probably just rent a router from my wifi provider.
Super impressed and disappointed - here is why. I had an older Motorola Surfboard SBG6580. It just seemed like the speed had declined over time. I was suggested to me that I have a lot more connections now; laptops, tablets, phones, Ring, etc. I finally decided to get a new Modem/Router, NetGear C7000 v2, for my xFinity connection. I followed the directions and connected it up without having to call Comcast (thank God). Then I measured the speed using speedtest.net. At a minimum, my download speed is doubled and on some devices six times. Then I set up the USB drive. Hooked a Passport drive to the USB port on the back of the router. I checked the compatibility list to make sure it was covered. Over at least 10 different attempts I have got results that vary from can't even see the drive, to seeing the drive but only getting some generic folder names, to getting into the USB folder and into the folders on the Passport, but then it does not see the files, to getting all that and seeing the files, but a few minutes later can't see anything. Everything is totally flaky and unreliable. I researched on the web and found lots of others with issues and lots of potential solutions, but nothing seems to work. If it does not work all the time without issues, there is no point in having it. So if you don't care about this function, then the router/modem is great.
Awful. I've been using this modem for about 7 months now and am so glad that it has finally died and I can replace it. I've had to reset it multiple times per day for quite a while now (internet connection will just suddenly drop, both over WiFi and ethernet) but now it has started to factory reset itself, losing all my WiFi configurations each time. The warranty period for these refurbished units is comically short, so by the time I got fed up with the disconnects it was too late to get any support from Netgear. The setup has always been annoying as well (going to 192.168.0.1 or routerlogin.com has never worked from my laptop, only from my iPhone). Honestly, it seems like none of the router products are great lately, but I'm definitely going to try my luck with something other than Netgear this time.
Would not reccomend. Based upon reviews of this modem/router combo, I purchased a refurbished device. I followed the instructions and was having extremely slow download speeds. My internet service provider could not determine why as everything looked okay on their end. I contacted NETGEAR and they determined that the problem was due to my refurbished unit needing a firmware update. They told me that the vender that Amazon was selling the unit for, DealParade, was not an authorized vendor for NETGRAR and therefore, they couldn't provide technical support. I contacted Amazon for technical support (the link was on the Amazon ad for the device) and based upon what I had already done, they suggested I return the unit. Amazon did initiate return process for me. I'm very disappointed with the NETGEAR refurbished unit. Next, I'm going to shop for a new modem/router.
