Pros
Good platform rack. Using to haul an eBike and a regular bike. Assembly was straightforward except that the first time I put it together, I inserted the support arms so that the retaining screws were on top, since the instructions didn't call that out. Everything works with the arms in the inverted position, but it's possible that water may find it easer to enter if the screws are on the top. The eBike we have is a step through model, so we had to use the "short" retaining arm for that to get it low enough to engage the cross bar, which on a step through is just above the crank. We also wanted the heavier eBike to sit on the inside position, closest to the car and the center of gravity. The center arm can be removed and flipped 180 degrees to allow this. Securing the bikes is straightforward if you use two hands to move the retaining clamps up or down the center arm--if you try to one hand it, it binds. With two hands, works great.
MADE HEAVY ENOUGH FOR EBIKES. My Ebikes fit on the carrier perfect. Great carrier!! The only problem I had with the carrier was the locking bolt for the receiver hitch didn't have enough threads on it. The threads wouldn't catch the nut unless you left the two washers off. even than the threads only caught by a couple of threads. Emailed the company, they told me they would send me a different bolt. It has been two months and no bolt yet. Poor customer service.
so glad i purchased this rack. A great value, heavy duty, and keeps my 2 fat tire bikes secure. Easy to assemble!
Cons
Be Careful. Major Flaw. Loaded ebikes and went down the interstate. The highway was rough and I looked in the rear view mirror to watch a bike disappear. Pulled over to find my cable lock had caught the bike and kept it from hitting the highway. I again tightened the rack brackets and locked again but, this time tightened the cable. Within five miles the bike had worked loose again. The retaining locks are plastic and will slip even locked, when force is applied. After that, I used a ratchet strap to hold the bikes in place along with the locking brackets. This held the force off the locking brackets and worked well. Do not use this without a snugly tightened ratchet strap.
sturdy but design could be better. This is a sturdy rack that holds our 2 e-bikes securely. Much better locking hooks with the ratchets than the previous version with screw clamps that kept loosening all by themselves - we almost lost the outer bike twice! But there are some design/fabrication flaws, hence only 3 stars. First, the center post that carries the two bike hooks has the ratchet grooves on the right side, as supplied. This makes it difficult to attach the bikes. If the long hook is put on first. to secure the bike nearest the car, then the short hook can't be used because it needs to go below the long hook. If you place the short hook on first, then secure the first bike with the long hook, you can't place the second bike on the rack because the short hook can't be raised high enough due to its hitting the long hook. I solved this by removing the swivel bolt that attaches the center post, reversing the post so the ratchet grooves are on the left side and re-bolting it. Took only a couple of minutes. Now, I can use the short hook first to secure the bike nearest the car, followed by the long hook to secure the second bike on the back. This nuisance could easily be solved if the manufacturer had put grooves on *both* sides of the center post, then you would have a choice which hook to install first. While doing my modification, I saw that the rearmost plate that holds the post swivel bolt has an indent on its outside face, no doubt meant to engage the spring-loaded detent ball that holds the post upright - but that indent should be on the *inside*, where the ball is, to make disengaging the ball easier. The plate was welded facing the wrong way! As it is, it is quite hard to disengage the spring-loaded ball from its detent hole, as well as the fact that the ball is now on the front of the post where it's more difficult to reach and press in. These two defects reduce the 'ease of use' of the rack considerably. I hope the seller/manufacturer takes note!
They won’t refund your money even if this doesn’t work on your rig. The unit sits up so high I cannot open my FJ at all. The unit itself is awkward and cheap looking. It functions clumsily and isn’t very sturdy. Additionally... parts were missing when it arrived and when I returned it they gave me only 1/2 my money back... which is ridiculous! Had I known I wasn’t getting ALL my money back, I would have just sold it myself! What a rip off!
