Super convenient, secure lock! I live in a ruralish small town. There is bike theft, but mostly just by opportunists who happen upon a bike that isn't locked. I locked up my Schwinn mountain bike for years with just a reinforced cable lock and never had any issues. However, when I got my first ebike, I wanted more peace of mind around town, and the foldy lock is perfect! Mounts securely to the downstem of my bike and is super easy to remove and use. Plus, the rainbow colors are fun and fit with the style and color of my bike. Love how it fits through the hole in my Thousand helmet too!
Unusual, brilliant design. Read many reviews for the usual bike locks... thought I might go with a "puck" design but when I saw this I thought it might be perfect, and so far it is! Really quick and easy to use (I was worried it wasn't quite big enough- you do have to be close to a pole) but of course only time will tell on the security. Love the relative light weight and awesome storage case. The little rubber grommets and custom cable ties keeps it nice and secure (and quiet).
FoldyLock - A Solid & Sturdy Lock w/Clean & Compact Fit! What an amazing and innovative bike ‘folding’ lock. If you’re seeking a cleaner, less obnoxious look, than the ‘standard’ U-bolt bike lock, this is it. Plus it offers superior anti-theft deterrence features. Yes, it costs more at $80 (on sale); but if you regard your bike as an investment or an essential equipment, then the FoldyLock (aka SeatyLock) will offer greater protection, along with greater piece of mind. - Mounting Issue: One concern that I had was where to mount it on my bike frame. I preferred the 'stem’, so I immediately mounted the lock holster to the mounting screws on my bike. But then I tried to slide in the FoldingLock into the holster. Ugh! It wouldn’t fit! 'When 'fully-folded', the length of the stem (i.e from the top bar to the crankcase) was too short (14.5”in; 36 cm). I groaned with frustration b/c I didn’t want to install it on the lower bar, where I mounted my water bottle. Then I discovered a technique (hack) to make it work, which I describe in the photos, below. So if your bike stem is a short (35-38 cm), perhaps try this method: Steps: 1, Place the folding lock over the opening of the holster 2. Push out the longer ‘outer’ bars (black) away from the holster and push the inner ‘’orange’ bars over the holster 3. Partially slide down the inner ‘orange’ bars into the holster about 1/4” to 1/2”. 4. Slide the outer ‘black’ bar so that it realigns straight with the orange bars. 5. Slide down the FoldingLock into its holster That’s it! All I needed was an extra 1/2” of space, but this method offers that space. Luv the final look and finish!
Fantastic Lock, Horrible Mounting - Depending on your bike. I love this lock and bought two. It works great for its intended function. The only issue is that if you don't have the holes in your bike for the water bottle mount, then you have to use these very frail zipties. They kept snapping and breaking with the slightest force. I highly recommend the lock, but also get a seperate tool to mount it.
High quality! I was hesitant to buy this because it cost about twice what I wanted to pay. After receiving it and trying it out I’m very impressed with the quality of this lock and the compact way it stores on my E-bike!
Heavy and good. Where I live, this is not a common looking lock. So, that alone likely helps look past my bike to the next one using a chain, cable, or u lock. I like that it folds compactly and fits on the frame. It is a bit heavy. But, that is the price you pay for any level of security. In practical use, locking the bike, I find it a little cumbersome and difficult. A little. Some of it is just getting used to this style, new places, and my bike. It always feels like it is just a little too short. If you have used a u-lock, you'll understand the initial puzzle of how you're going to lock up your bike. This lock presents the same puzzle, but seems like it would be easier, but not much. I like that it does not scratch my bike. It has a fairly large key compared to my u-lock. I wish they made a combination version for my son who doesn't ride enough to keep up with a key. Maybe they do it I missed it. ? In any case, I like this lock quite a bit. It will keep my expensive bike secured while I have lunch or dinner or do other errands where I don't see my bike for an hour or two.
Cons
Mounting straps broke on installation. The lock seams heavy/strong as expected. The mounting straps were brittle from the start. After carefully opening the straps and getting the bracket into position to mount.. the first strap broke immediately.. before putting any tension on it! Had to use zip ties to secure the mounting bracket instead. Considering the expensive price of this system, there should be better mounting straps!
So easy to use I got lazy. It was wonderful to finally have a lock that I could smoothly and easily used to secure the bike to a rack. I bought it as an adjunct to my kryptonite chain and padlock, which I vowed to always use whenever I was leaving the bike for more than just a couple minutes or in a light traffic area. Unfortunately, I got complacent, and started using it alone at times instead of in conjunction with the chain. I came back after an hour to find someone had zipped through it with an angle grinder.
BIKE STOLEN. Bike was stolen from busy street corner within 30 minutes of being locked. Update: added two stars back because I could’ve registered it but didn’t, and they provided me a coupon, and I bought the thicker model that was more appropriate for my bike. I also love the design and case.
Hahahaha! I’m just laughing because it’s misspelled on the side as “SeatyLCOK”. That makes me worry about the inspection process. I saw another review say the same thing and I’m surprised it hasn’t been corrected yet. It seems sturdy. And if it’s half as strong as the packaging it comes in then it will be worth the price. It’s also NOT 33.4”. Maybe if you measure around the outside edge, but the inside edge is only about 27”. That’s some deceptive marketing. Must have been measured by a man, if you know what I’m sayin. As you can see in the pictures. 4 sections are about 4” and two are 5”. That’s only 26ish inches. This certainly isn’t a lock I would use overnight. I’m sure it’s fine for quick stops or when you can still keep an eye on it though.
Warranty not honored. This lock has a great design and generally works but unfortunately I received a defective one where the spring became dislodged from the joint. Instead of replacing the product as requested, Seaty customer service directed me to remove the metal spring with pliers. For the money they charge, I feel their warranty should have been honored.
Doesn't fit every bike. I just installed the holder on my cruiser bike and there's not enough clearance to put the lock in the holder. There's no adjusting range on the mounting holes to move it down further.
