Pros & Cons

Pros

Good value, Great product. I had my new Cosmo range hood installed a week ago. This was a replacement hood and I am so happy I chose Cosmo. It is easy to use, has all the right features, works great, lots of light and was very easy to install. My appliance installer was impressed.

Great range hood. Love this. On the highest level it’s not as loud as most. Sucks up cooking smoke/smells pretty quickly. Looks sleek. I had it installed but it didn’t take my electrician long to install. Many said the light wasn’t strong enough, but they must’ve fixed this issue bc the light is extremely bright & perfect for cooking. Loving it so far. Mine is ductless so I bought the charcoal filters and I couldn’t be happier. Def recommend.

Beautiful style. It looks beautiful. Everyone loves it. I can’t have a ducted hood and all ductless hood look ugly or old in style so this hood can be either ducted or ductless. He cut a hole in the cabinet and put a duct there. Not in the wall or outside. Easy to install. If you want a ductless hood be sure to buy charcoal filter.

UC30 works well. I initially ordered the UMC30, which has an electronic control panel. The control panel was overly complicated to use, and it required 2 or 3 well-timed button presses to get the fan onto the Low setting. Then, when you shut it off, it counts down from 1 minute to shutdown. You have to hold the button to shut it off immediately. Also, the UMC30 buttons provide no tactile feedback, which makes them a bit more confusing to use. Some people might say "you need a PhD in engineering to use this." Yeah, well, I do in fact have a PhD in engineering, and I thought it was a nuisance to use. I sent back the UMC30 and ordered the Cosmo UC30 instead. The UC30 has analog controls that are very easy to use. We installed the UC30 in our kitchen. It looks good, it draws a lot of air, and on the Low and Medium settings it isn't too loud. I do have two gripes about the UC30: 1. As with most range hoods, there are two flaps on the top that open when you turn it on. However, if you use the Cosmo-provided flexible duct, the flaps get caught on the duct and don't close properly when you turn off the fan. I ended up discarding the Cosmo duct and using some round ducting that I bought separately on Amazon. 2. On the High fan speed the filters rattle quite loudly. I solved this by adding some adhesive-backed felt to hold the filters in place securely. All in all, I think the digital UMC30 is annoying to use, but the analog UC30 is quite nice.

Gorgeous, efficient, and quiet- thumbs up. We've had our range hood installed for about 2 weeks now and are very happy with it! It works much better than the old model it replaced (no idea on CFMs or age of that thing but it was time for a replacement, ha). This thing is also BEAUTIFUL which was a big selling point for me. I love that it has buttons only and no digital clock or touch pad... less potential for malfunctions down the road, plus I already have digital clocks on my microwave, coffee maker, and oven all within a foot of each other and this range hood... I can't tell you how glad I am not to have an extra clock to reset every time the power goes out lol. This is very quiet on the first setting, still relatively quiet on medium, and creates a decent bit of noise on the highest setting but you are moving a lot of air at that point so I think it's well in line with what I'd expect for the performance. Suction has been impressive to me on all settings, and we haven't had any issues with rattling. It isn't heavy as far as these things go, but it was still a bit of a beast to install as DIYers just because of the nature of the item and location you're putting it (my husband and I did this while I was 8 months pregnant so it's quite doable for the DIY crowd, just not EASY). Definitely recommend two people for install if you're not a pro, and using the box and styrofoam packaging to prop it up while you work helps a lot. Oh and as some others mentioned- yes, it was a pain to peel off the protective film but it was totally worth it to me to have a product that is in pristine shape and undamaged, I peeled while watching TV and it was fine. In the end I'm very happy with the item and would recommend!

Looks Nice and Goes Up Quick. Although I purchased this "Very Good", it was actually NEW, just outer box was used. Very well packaged. All accessories packed inside. Peeling off the blue shipping film was the most challenging aspect. Unpacked, plugged it in and tested it. We already had a 7 inch round vent pipe so the INCLUDED round extension was easy to install. The challenge was holding it in place and getting 4 screws to go in STRAIGHT. I ended up laying on my back across the stove, so as to push up straight. When I installed the grease trap baffles they do not lay flat, looks lop-sided. When the fan is on they are held in position. NOISE: No different than existing fan we had (you can have a conversation with someone but maybe 5 feet away would be better than at the stove. Low speed much quieter. SUCTION AIR FLOW: Tested with a receipt and at about 3-4 inches from VENT it was pulled up and held. Nice! SUGGESTION: A paper template with the screw positions would have been very helpful. CONCLUSION: If you have an existing vent pipe, installing this with another person is not difficult. It is prewired with an AC Ground plug. The LED lights cast a soft glow on stop top. Now I need a bottle of Stainless Steel polish.

Cons

Not designed for quality cabinets. This seems to have been engineered for Ik-vomit-ea boxes. It's impossible to mount it flush to the bottom of real cabinets. This hood is assembled with rivets. The rivet heads protrude above the hood's primary assembly. Also, rivet heads stick out the back of the hood. It will not go flush to the cabinet above, nor the wall behind the hood. Plus, the mounting hole locations are placed about 1 inch from edge. Face-frame cabinets use 3/4 inch stock with about a 3/4 inch space under the cabinets' box. Wood fillers must be installed under a typical, quality cabinet box, but there is very little space for mounting screws to get any bite. I used #10 Stainless Steel washers for more purchase. My biggest complaint is the location of the 6" duct on the top of the hood. It's less than the required distance needed to clear the back of a decent cabinet. It should be, at least, 1.25 inches from the back of the hood. Without sufficient spacing for the 6" plastic exhaust exiting the top of the hood, the exhaust vent will NOT align with typical 6" round duct. Unforgivable. Very poor engineering, throughout. Removing some plastic from the edge of the damper with 80 grit sandpaper, gave it enough clearance. Prior to my sandpaper adjustment, the damper was pinched and would not open on any of the fan's speed settings. Very bad. I removed the light assembly, two screws, to facilitate the removal of the blue protection film. Doing so, revealed a broken wire keeper and mis-routed wire assemblies. Easy fix, if you know what should be tied and how to properly secure wires that carry 110 Volts. Besides all the previously mentioned foibles, IT'S A HALF INCH SHY OF 30 INCHES. That's a quarter inch on both sides. Ridiculous. Every over-the-oven cabinet is a full 30 inches. Duh. The lights are bright enough. The finish is OK. The suction seems adequate and the noise level is on par with a solid-ducted hood. I did not use the included flex-duct. Plug-in to 110 Volts, instead of hard-wired, is a new Safety Nanny feature, I guess. I don't like it. I would not recommend this hood. I would not buy it, again, given 20-20 hindsight. My Gal liked the style, so I bought it, of course. I adjusted, accordingly, knowing it would be a custom install. However, I wasn't anticipating such a rude piece of junk.

Not really a convertible. Pro: super easy to install. Comes with a diagram of the hood, with the exact dimensions. Great for drilling holes on wall for installation. Suction power falls in the expectation range for the price. Cons: NOT good for ductless. This product is being marketed as a convertible hood. However it is really designed as a vented hood. It has a top vent that sticks out about 3/4 inch above. This is where your exhaust would come out if you go with ductless. Assuming you have a cabinet that’s above the hood, would you drill a 6” hole on the bottom of your cabinet and let the exhaust exit into your cabinet? If not, you’ll need leave a gap of at least 2.5 inches between the top of the hood and the bottom of the cabinet. Don’t forget there are two dampers inside the top vent that would flap open when the hood is turned on. Envision what esthetic value that’ll add to your kitchen. Besides, the greasy/warm exhaust would blow right on your hair/face when you cook. Well, they do sell charcoal filter separately for about $20-30 (cheap cheap stuff, completely a rip-off) that you can attach to the suction intake vent. Supposedly these two filters would trap the oily component in the exhaust. Plan to buy a new pair every other month. So, the choice is yours, should you ever go ductless.

Warning: This hood has a Plastic motor that can’t handle the average heat of a cooking stove! I’m not happy. Not at all. This was a bad purchase. One installed and in use, we noticed the fan would vibrate violently when in use over a stove while cooking. It’s a plastic fan that has blades that warp when exposed to heat. Let that sink in: the hood makes a loud vibrating noise that shakes the actual cabinets on either side of the hood because the plastic motor becomes flexible due to the average heat from the stove. Isn’t this piece of junk made to handle heat, smoke and steam? Obviously not. I called their customer service and got through to no one. I emailed and got someone’s attention. I am now waiting for a replacement motor, but I’m skeptical. Oh, and guess who has to install the new motor? Yours truly. The worst part was the attitude of their customer service. They insinuate that you as the consumer are to blame. They told me my hood must be mounted too low. It isn’t. I mentioned my discovery that with the first cleaning (using the recommended cleaning products and methods) I saw the printed indicators for the control buttons were starting to rub off. This is all happening after just a few months. The person literally responded with “sorry your printed indicators are rubbing off because of grease. Make sure to take note of their functions so you can remember when they completely rub off.” Really. I’m so aggravated with this stupid thing - it can only run on low speed, otherwise the vibration makes it untenable. Like one of those old corvette kit cars that you put over a VW beetle chassis, this hood looks fantastic but it’s got a crappy, under powered, noisy motor. AVOID THIS PRODUCT.

-2 stars for poor customer service which is just as important as a ... This is an industrial hood range cus man its loud!...all 3 settings (with the 3rd being the oldest) are fairly loud! Probably because the fan works really well, which is what I wanted first and foremost so I'm OK when all said and done. But I’ve yet to try it out so we’ll see. Second LED ballast went out shy of a year and I've called customer service three times in the past week and a half and no returned calls!! -2 stars for poor customer service which is just as important as a good quality product! Take that in consideration when purchasing because based on reviews and now my experience with the unit, you will have to contact customer service at one point guaranteed! I never thought I would even after reading reviews but and here I am contacting them again and again. Seams the mother board is fried and it’s only been over a year since I purchased it new as it’s still not working after new ballasts and led light install! It will cost as much as the entire unit I can guarantee you so I’ll see which rout I will take after I find out the cost of mother board!...

Underwhelmed, but missed return date. Very noisy, suction not great, looks nice though.

Works very well- except for a metalic rattle (nothing do with fan noise). Was fairly easy to install (while possible with one person- two is much easier). Wanted to capture steam mostly while cooking- and this hood does that very well. Only issue is the noise. Not the suction noise (this is quieter than the one I replaced.) The metal plates do not have enough "tension" on them to stop them from rattling when you turn it on. The low setting is okay- but one of the others will produce a LOUD rattle (Medium almost always rattles- High will start okay but develop the rattle over time). I can't ignore it. Almost packed it up and sent it back. Then I got creative. Put a couple layers of electrical table together to form a little wedge that I put along the edge of each plate and ta-da- no rattle. Glad I could make it work but not something I should have to do... clearly a flaw.
