Pros & Cons

Pros

Smart home must have. This lock is awesome! If you’re into smart home, this’s a must have piece. Very practical, you know who uses the door, can give access to friends and family from anywhere in the world with their bridge! Auto lock so you never wonder if you locked the door or not! Virtually easy to install !

Early to make a decision but it works. I am using it for 2 weeks. My wife loves it, no more keys needed. Nice to have a backup option to open lock by key, in case of battery crash or device fails. I have a worry about plastic mechanism that rotate the lock. Looks not sturdy enough. During assembling it I was also worried how thin was a connection wire between keypad and body. My citeria during buying a lock were: - ability to set and manage users remotely, outside wife network - having backup key - check all locks/unlocks statuses remotely That all work with this lock. Nice that it came with wife bridge. It is really stupid that other manufactures required us to purchase it as extra. Integration to ghome was useless. Nothing work from it, but I didn't research enought. Maybe I can use IFFT service. Generally good lock with some plastic design worries. Will see how long it will last

Works as advertised and easy to install/setup. Replaced a standard mechanical deadbolt on my front door. Didn't want a finger print reader type, have had too many issues with those on other devices (work with my hands a lot and apparently that effects my finger prints sometimes). Lock was super easy to install, took about 10 minutes. App install, initial sync and setup was straightforward and easy. I didn't have any issues that some have noted. The gateway was the same. After I linked the lock in the app, I plugged in the gateway and synced it to the lock/app and I was done. *** I was a little stumped for a minute on the gateway. It showed a blank box with another below labeled password, there was no label on the first box. I looked up the instructions online and they just said to use the same setup used for the lock. But they noted that you would have an issue if your router didn't advertise both the 2.4 & 5Ghz SSIDs separately (only one broadcast for both), which is what my router does. So I entered my SSID in the first box and the password in the second and it linked right up. So far, only been 2 days, everything works like it is supposed to. I did turn off the auto lock feature, as I worry about locking myself out. And I haven't linked it to my Alexa yet, but plan to. I will update this if I have any issues or if I have the short battery life some have noted. But so far works exactly as advertised.

Mostly Happy. I like the lock, but if I could do it over again, I think I would try another with the finger print scanner that has all the other features this one has and maybe more for around the same price, I know this company has one with a finger print scanner, it was just a lot more then what I wanted to pay. The few things I don't like about this lock, the auto unlock doesn't work all the time, it works better now then in the beginning, after a lot of research make sure your on a 2.4hrz Wi-Fi and you have to make sure that your Wi-Fi is on a channel that doesn't have a lot of interference, that did the trick for me and the other thing I don't like is the Auto-Lock feature isn't smart enough to know you have the door open and it will lock automatic even if left open and if your wife/kids don't see the deadbolt is out, they slam the door going to close it and the bolt slams in to your door frame, giving it a nice dent!! So I turn the auto lock off because of that, but some other lock makers figured out how to add a sensor so if your door is open it won't auto lock. I would go for a lock that has that because I like the the Auto-Lock feature, but can't use it on this lock. Can't remember the brand that has that feature on the Auto Lock, but it was around the same price. But over all the App is good, the lock is good!! Just do your research, there is a lot of options out there, even the off brands are good choices now, heck they're all made overseas now.

OMGOSH I LOVE IT. It's an easy install, took my husband about 15 minutes, set up is really easy, adding people very easy and there's 3 options, Admin, Standard, Temporary. You can set it up to notify you of every open lock or close lock, you can also elect who you always want to be notified when the a particular individual opens with code or manually opens or locks. I got the black one, I wish I'd gotten the white one, but no matter, this item is awesome, easy on the wallet and very nice looking. You can also link the app to Google Home and tell it to open or close the deadbolt. You pick the 4 digit code used by others on the account, can delete other users or set a time limit access by minutes, hours or days temporary guests have access to enter. I have an individual coming for 9 days to feed the dog, all I had to do was go to the app and pick the dates on the calendar. I got the set that comes with the bridge, and I can open it from anywhere. I linked it with Google Home, and like an idiot didn't get the finger print. But you don't need it, when my phone gets near the locked door, it unlocks automatically.

Good product, better service. I purchased this lock in December 2019, and procrastinated a bit having it installed. In April of 2020, I finally got around to calling a locksmith, and having this lock professionally installed at my home. The lock worked exactly as advertised. It was simple to program, and any questions I had were quickly answered by the customer service team. I was very surprised how responsive they were. The lock had excellent features that were easy to use, especially when it came to programming, such as temporary codes for contractors, etc. Then, this past January, the lock suddenly didn't have power. Even with a battery change, I could not jump start. By early February I reached out to the company, and explained that although the lock was over a year since purchase, I had not installed until April. The CS team was great with walking me through several trouble shooting steps, and being patient as I was not always able to get right back to them (this was all done via email - very convenient). When I was unable to get things going again, they simply sent me a new lock, which was simple to put in place of the old one. New lock works great, and we are once again secure. I recommend the lock for sure, but the customer service of this company sets them apart. They stand behind the product, and will help you through any issues you may have.

Cons

Absolute Garbage. I installed my lock 4 days ago. In the 4 days it quit working 4 times. I reached out to support to troubleshoot, which was a complete nightmare. First they say they are open 9 am to 5 pm pst, that is a lie. They never answer the phone during this time and they don’t start responding to tickets until 5 pm CST. For all of the troubleshooting they have you do, they require you to take screenshots or video to prove you actually did it. Finally after several attempts they agree that the lock is bad and offer to send me the refurbished inner parts to replace my brand new lock. Why would I pay full price for a new lock to receive refurbished parts for something that was their issue. This was an all around horrible experience and the lock was crap. I will never purchase from them again nor recommend them to anyone. Do Not buy unless you enjoy being locked out of your house or spending hours troubleshooting issues.

Some things just are not true. This is a nice lock overall but I am giving it just one star simply because the battery life claim is completely false. The information here and on the manufacturer's website claim that one set of batteries will cycle the lock 8,000 times over a year and/or 20 times per day. I have owned my lock for 9 months and just installed my 3rd set of batteries On average I haven't used the batteries to cycle the lock any more than probably 5 times a week. Since the pandemic hit there is seldom a time when we all leave the house so there little need to lock the door electronically. It is usually locked manually at night from the inside. If the lock itself is supposed to indicate a low battery then that is not obvious. The first time I found the batteries low was because I checked the phone app. It will tell you. But if you don't use the phone app to operate the lock then you won't know. They don't recommend rechargeable batteries, which I tried once, but they don't work. They have the voltage but not the power to operate the lock. They don't recommend lithium batteries because of the fast sudden loss of power but they sell them on their website under their own brand name. They probably are what should be used if they will actually last longer. There are extended warranties available here although I am not sure they were available when I bought my lock. Before purchasing check the manufactures website for more important information.

Bridge hungs and you'll learn that only when away. No customer support. While at home, the app connects to the lock directly using Bluetooth. If that's when you are changing the codes etc you wouldn't even know that the bridge to lock Bluetooth connection is hung. And it hangs daily. You'll see the issue when you are outside and try to access the lock. Then, it's impossible to manually reboot the bridge, which solves the issue. I asked them to put a button in the app that reboots the bridge, since it is accessible (wifi doesn't hang). But their responses to my requests are horrible. Customer support is completely useless and sends nothing but some canned responses. For example, i described the problem - need to reboot remotely, i am not in the house to do it manually. This second part of the sentence triggered them to send me the details on the manual reset. Basically they skimmed through the email, saw some keywords and replied with some nonsense. Calling them idiots, stupid, asking why they cannot just read what the request is etc it all just doesn't help. Nothing triggers them to say *wait a minute, let's see what this guy's issue is". They "know" what my issue is, they know what all possible issues might be, and for everything they prepared a generic reply email with FAQ. Update: decided to give it more time as i paid just 70$ and it seems they did some update. No hangs in two months. Still, i would not pay premium price for this. This is a classical Chinese cloud product where you can expect they will kill after it starts being too much effort on the server side.

Bridge feature is unreliable - RETURNED FOR REFUND. Purchased this item to allow -remote- key distribution/auditing of the lock/unlock operation. Physically seems OK. Setup was insanely frustrating- support suggested logging out/in to the app, which worked the second time. Bridge feature is nearly useless, my guess is that their server backend is junk. The app is confusingly & incorrectly worded, clearly written by a non-native speaker. Ditto for email support. IFTTT never worked. Google Home integration worked maybe 15% of the time. The admin should be notified & confirmation required when a new phone signs into the app - to prevent user login sharing. As it stands now users can just share their login, making the app security model useless. Happy for Amazon’s refund policy, but not getting my wasted hours & aggravation back.

I thought this was going to be better! Updated: 11/27 : I received a replacement from U-Tec after they saw this review and I contacted support. The replacement had the wiring harness break off as I installed it. My feedback to U-Tec was to shorten that wire, as it is the hardest part of the installation. I REALLY wanted this to work easily, unfortunately that was not the case, and I just needed something that works. Original Review: I owned this for six weeks before I could install it on a new door in my old house. The installation itself was fairly easy (for the average handyman). The problem has been it simply does not work. It looses pairing with my phone constantly, and the wifi bridge has to be so close to the lock that it should be built in! (literally a foot) Customer support has been "ok". Not amazing like I had hoped. Over the course of a few days I have been asked to do things I have already tried. I just sent a video of it not working at their request. The app is useless. It so slow to load, and constantly hangs with a loading icon spinning. I checked out the Google Play reviews and many people have this issue. Then I come to find out my return window closed a month after I bought it. I would have been sending it back otherwise. I really want this to work like the marketing says. I was going to replace my August smart lock in another door, with a second one.

Big pros and cons. Works great for the most part but one of the big selling features for me was the auto-unlock. I loved the idea of this unlocking automatically when I approach the door. I have yet to have it work as intended even once. I've ensured everything is in place for it to work, it just doesn't. Worse, after I've been home for 10-15 minutes, THEN it unlocks (that's how slow it is to catch up), but now my door is left unlocked and I may not have noticed. I had to turn the auto-unlock feature off because it just doesn't work and actually causes a security risk. Also the brushed nickel finish is a lie. It's a stainless steel finish and will not match any door handle that is truly brushed nickel. The mismatch finish does not look good. The rotary number arrangement makes entering codes more difficult. On the positive side, it has great features for creating multiple users/ codes including limited schedules and number of uses. You can also review a log of who/ when used the lock. Another great feature is that it allows you to enter extra digits before and/ or after the code which is great if you have someone standing next to you while you enter the code. The downside of this is that you have to push enter after entering the code since it doesn't know how many digits you want to enter in total. Other similar locks will just open once you enter the code It would be nice if you could set schedules to have the door lock at a regular time or notifications if it's left unlocked at certain times or set period.
