Pros & Cons

Pros

These are great! Well, I bought these a while back to upgrade the lights in my shop to LED's. Didn't get around to installing them until now. I am duly impressed. These things are BRIGHT!. I installed one on every other ceiling joist and for once in my life I finally have a shop with enough light. Installation was super easy even though I directly wired them in. I was concerned about the mounting clips due to some poor reviews here but turns out they work just fine. It took me less than 3 hours to install and wire all 10 of them including running wire back to the switch. Complaints: The hard-wire pigtails are too short. No where near long enough at only 6" or so. It would be better if the pigtails were at least 12" and preferably 18". The same is true for the jumper wires. The ones I got with these 8' fixtures are just shy of 48" and so I had to run hard-wire to boxes for all of the lights due to my 4' spacing. The 4' lights I got for awkward spots had even shorter jumper wires. The clips could be beefier to be honest but they do work. You'll need longer screws if you're going through drywall though. Finally, I seemingly got a somewhat random count of mounting clips, screws, end caps, pigtails, jumpers and 110V switched power cords. All in all these are a great purchase and I definitely will buy them again. $19 per 8' fixture is a damn good deal AND they are hella-bright. Definitely would recommend.

HERES WHY SOME PEOPLE SAY THE LIGHTS GO OUT. OK i bought 2 sets of these lights for my 40 feet wide x 60 feet long and 22 feet high SHOP first of all i have 18 total lights i simply installed outlets on the ceiling when we built the shop at the center point at 3 locations, one left, center and right. each outlet is a duplex plug. since the plugs are in the center of a 60 foot in length they were installed at the 30 foot mark. i have 3 lights put together in a string and ran 3 strings running forward from the midpoint on the left, center and right, and 3 running backwards from the same duplex outlets for a total of 18 lights 6 strings of 3 each. let me tell you the lights have gotten more compliments than just about anything else in the shop by contractors, still getting work done and friends who have seen the shop. the Only gripe it the fact several have stopped working and now i know why! these things are 8 feet long, and when on they get warm. they are made on an extruded aluminum frame (heatsink) well if you know anything about physics metal expands when its heated up, and when you have 8 feet x 3 lights or 24 feet of aluminum they get longer by about a quarter of an inch i am guessing from one end of the string to the other. that said when your using the tiny solid plastic connectors between each and butt them end to end, they will grow and for a tiny amount actually have to slide through the mounting brackets i used to install them. when they cool one of the brackets on either end is probably just a little tighter than the others and as they shrink, they become unplugged from one another. how can you fix this? well in my case i am looking at several approaches, the most obvious to me seems to be how to tie them together at the ends with a mechanical fastener like a strip of aluminum and a screw at each end that spans the gap between them. i am going to inspect and make sure there's no electronics to drill through on the aluminum body that would prevent me from drilling a small hole and inserting a small pan head screw to secure an aluminum strip across the gap to make sure they don't separate. another idea would be to hang them from a couple pieces of string looped around them at each end so they can move a little and stay together, or if i separate them a little and use the 4 foot extension cords they provided but ill have a wad of cord to secure and tie up between each and i have to separate them by a few inches to accomplish this. i believe the only time you will have problems with these going out will be when your installation has them right across a ceiling butted end to end more than 2 at a time. if you have just 2 in a string i don't think they will come unplugged because each light can expand and contract a little at each end. but when you have 3 or more i think the one in the middle pushes it's partners apart enough that eventually after you turn them off and they cool they will disconnect. my biggest problem is i have a 22 foot high ceiling and as you can imagine it is difficult and dangerous to get up that high on anything to fix them, without a scissor lift that i have to rent at about $100 a pop to get close enough to them to make a permanent fix. another guy used some u shaped pipe clamps that fit over them as several have said the brackets they come with won't hold them. i think this idea will work well for a simple solution because i would expect the lights will easily slide through these brackets and keep them from getting pulled apart as they cool. i tweaked each of brackets a little so they would grip tighter and IMO i feel the brackets they come with are more than adequate for the light weight they have to support. HOWEVER i do highly recommend you snap a chalk line across your ceiling to get the brackets exactly in a straight line if your butt them end to end or use more then 2 brackets one at each end of a light because if you plan to use 3 or 4 of the brackets they come with you need them perfectly in line with each other. i found 2 was enough, just make sure each end of the bracket snaps firmly around the side of the light.

Simply the best!! I'd been looking for lights that would be easy to install, a decent price, and provide a sufficient amount of light in my shop when I came across these. These come with all the basic hardware and wires needed to get them installed quickly. The only complaint I can make about the hardware is that the screws could be longer. They barely made it through the sheetrock on my ceiling. I replaced them with longer ones I had on hand which worked great. There was extra brackets that came with this pack that I did use on a few of the lights. The lights themselves are super light but are amazingly bright. The one drawback I found on these is that a couple had cracks in the plastic clear covers when they arrived. I think better packaging would have possibly saved this from happening. The lights came bundled together in a box with no protection and only tape at each end holding them together. A thin piece of cardboard was all that separated the lights from the hardware. All in all, for the price and the value they've provided me in my shop, very happy with this purchase.

Bright and plenty of installation options. These lights are very bright and contain everything needed for different types of installation. I used the AC plug with the line cord switch. There is no defuser, but the lights are covered with clear plastic. Even with the clear cover, there are no created shadows. Installation was very easy, again, all mounting hardware is included. My only complaint is that the advertisement is a little misleading. The pack comes as a quantity of 10, but for the 4 foot lights, as per instructions, you can only install a max of 6 in series. I connected 5 and 5 to the same AC source and everything worked fine.

Nice lights but packaging is weak. Lights are appropriately bright…one is about equal to a double fluorescent with ballast. Very light weight and am overall pleased. My recommendation is that if you already have mounted lights, consider getting bulbs to fit the housing (minus the ballast) instead of these. Mounting is easy on a flat ceiling but difficult on an irregular surface. I put these in the basement garage where wiring, plumbing, etc. get in the way of a flush mount. Not the manufactures fault by any means…just something to consider. Much has been said about the “clips” but I didn’t have any problems. Perhaps buy more than you need because I used more than the directions….didn’t want a light to fall on the hood of my prized auto. The packaging was weak and yes, I sustained damage to a couple of the 8’ lights due to shipping. USPS is NOT equipped to ship 8’ packages. I have purchased other LED lights from a different manufacturer and they utilized a much more sturdy cardboard box…could hardly break it down to throw it in recycle! Barrina should look into that technology because no one wants to have to ship back this large of material. Only time will tell as to the longevity but will update this if unsatisfactory.

Outstanding Product. I like restoring old cars and have worked in many dark garages.. I added 9 ceiling mounted 8' lamps and placed the 10th one in the attic where I store stuff. The garage is 480sf... trust me when I say there are no dark spots in this garage. One suggestion, do not use the mounting clips, use 1.25" pipe straps.. super easy to install, use 2 per light, very cheap upgrade to the weak mounting brackets. Best $230 I have spent in quite a while. Awesome product... very happy.

Cons

2 year life span. I purchased 2 sets back on Dec 8, 2020. Not quite 2 years now and they are starting to burn out. I really like the lights, easy to install, and intensely bright. Works perfect in my garage as I’m always out there. But as I stated not quite 2 years and the LED’s are burning out. I had a total of four lights burn out, but I was able to disassemble them and savage the good strips to make 2 of them work. Very simple with a little bit of solder knowledge and you can do the same. I would buy again, but I would add the 4 year protection plan to your order. Hope this helps.

Don't use the clips that come with the lights... Lights work as advertised just DO NOT use the hanging clips that come with them. We purchased almost $600 in lights rented a scissor lift for a weekend only to have one come crashing down on a customers vehicle yesterday. They've only been up a couple months. We're out a lot of money repairing a vehicle, renting another scissor lift and purchasing new hangers for the lights that are starting to fall. Since they were just installed we hadn't noticed, they're all starting to fall. The lights are super bright and make our workspace easier to work in but now unfortunately we have repairs to make this weekend.

Light are failing at an alarming rate! (UPDATE) I've had these light installed for 2 years now, and on every light, MANY LEDs have failed. On one light I could see 15 dark spots and other spots that were blinking. This is only with occasional daily use and on the weekends for a few hours here and there, these lights are not on all the time. I bought these lights to replace fluorescent fixtures that had lasted 10-15 years. LEDs are supposed to outlast fluorescent bulbs many times over, but that's not the case with these. I would no longer recommend that anyone buy them, and if you look through other Amazon reviews, others are seeing the same thing. (Original review) These are REALLY BRIGHT LIGHTS!! I got the 8’ 5000k lights and the color temp matches my other 5000k led bulbs. First off the lights don’t weigh much. I’ve seen a lot of reviews saying the metal mounting clips are too thin and weak to hold the light and that you need a zip tie or something else to hold it. That seems completely silly to me. There are 30 clips in the package, so 3 per light. That is easily enough. While installing the lights I would put one clip in the center, and then add the outer ones. Just one clip in the middle could hold the weight, no problem. With 3 there’s no way the light is going to come loose. I did bend the clips in slightly just to make sure though. I have power in several places on my ceiling because I’m replacing fluorescent fixtures, but the power came into those fixtures to one side or the other of center. These lights connect to power on the ends. Because of that, and the fact that the direct wire they give you is about 6” long, I ended up using the power wire with the standard 120v plug and toggle switch, which is 5’ long. If you cut off the plug and strip the wire back it works much better than the short direct wire they give you. The short direct wire option has some unusual colored wires in it, yellow with a green stripe (ground), brown (hot) and blue (neutral). The 5 foot power cord has standard wire colors, green (ground), white (hot) and black (neutral). Now regarding the brightness. I have blue eyes and have always been sensitive to bright lights. These lights are so bright it hurts me to look directly at them. In testing them, they were so bright that I eventually decided to put something over the light to defuse them somewhat. I tried a few things, but works the best is white contact paper from HD. The paper comes in a 18” x 20’ length for $8 bucks and has an adhesive backing like tape, only not as sticky. You can easily lay it down and peal it back up to work out the air bubbles if you get any. Afterwards the light was perfect and the intense brightness was knocked down a bit, right where I wanted it. If you look at the attached pic looking up directly at the bulb, the top third of it has the paper installed, and the rest is the bare bulb. The bright light washes out the camera, so in the pic it looks slightly yellow where the tape is. That’s only in the pic, it doesn’t really look like that in person. In the other pics with the cars, each bulb is completely covered by the contact paper, so you can see how white the light is, and it’s still plenty bright. I think they turned out perfect! I wouldn’t highly recommend these lights, especially if you have high ceilings and won’t be looking directly into them. You won’t be disappointed with the light output. One thing I would recommend is adding the lights to your Honey droplist and watching the price for a week or so. They run a lightning sale every so often and drop the price a bunch.

Very bright and easy to install. Brightness is great, however only 8 of the 10 worked and would have to send the entire 10 lights back in order to receive a replacement, not very easy considering the fact i already 6 of the 10 mounted and now i have to accept the fact i have 2 lights not working....not pleased at all!!!

Great lights, disappointed longevity. These lights were installed in a sewing room and a retail shop. We purchased three sets for the projects. They were very easy to install and provided excellent lighting. Color rendering and volume was outstanding, critically important in the embroidery, quilting and sewing industries. However, after 18 months we started to have random lights fail. These lights were linked per the instructions. While they were in warranty, the vendor refunded the cost of each individual light that failed (4 or 5 total). In the last month we have had 7 fail. The power to the lights was checked to ensure it was "clean" and correct voltage. It is clear that the lights have an issue to the led driver circuitry. The led strips light up perfectly when tested using a good led driver circuit. Very disappointed, especially when I have recommended these to several friends who have installed the lights in their shops and have experienced similar issues.

Good..ish. Light and easy to install. I wanted to like these lights since they are at a great price and initial impressions we're good. The lights are very bright and crisp, great coverage, and I used all 10 in my 2-1/2 car garage. I do a lot of car shop work, so it helped tremendously. The install was fairly simple and comes with different methods of install. I tapped into my existing garage lighting wiring, and fed them to the included the supplied connector pigtails. I only Daisy chain two per wire connection, but I think you can link up to 6 per wire connection. I found the layout to be better in pairs for my garage without wires and holes everywhere, resulting in the cleanest install for my situation. The lights come with adapters to butt them together to share power as well as wall outlet versions of the wiring to fit all installation options. I purchased and installed these back in November 2019. About 6 months later, I noticed a couple would randomly strobe or flicker then suddenly stop doing it. I didn't think anything of it, and it didn't happen very often. Now we are a little over 1 year in, and I see it has went from a random flicker on the two units to full dead units. I get we may get a few duds here and there, hence the 3 year warranty they supposedly come with, but I can see all 10 of my units have an issue. 8 have individual LED cells going out as seen in the photos with the exposure turned down. You can see the strips that are on appear to have missing spots of light, and the individual cells no longer come on. So over time, it will lead to a reduction in lumens and maybe even dark areas as far as lighting is concerned. 2 of the 10 units have completely died, and I have taken the liberty of pulling them down to test them individually using wall outlet power to verify. I tried plugging the power into each end to confirm it, and they're very very dead. So there you have it. They work look good, versatile to install, easy to install, and work good for a short while. It is not a long life product, and I am doubtful any unit will last to the 3 year warranty period. My usage rate might be between 10-60 minutes of use per day. During the day, I usually just open the garage door for natural lighting. I expect LED's to last much longer than this, but I assume it is the quality/source of the LED chips that are the issue here. I am not sure what to do with them, or how to place a warranty claim. I'll have to update this in the event something is done about them.
