Back-lit buttons did it for me! I recently purchased an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K to eliminate an issue I had with my Vizio "Smart" 4K TV freezing up with apps, specifically Netflix. Problem solved (I'll review the Fire TV Stick 4K separately..it's great!). The remote that came with the Fire TV Stick 4k (on the left in the picture) worked great. Paired easily with my TV, Fire Stick and Alexa-enabled Echo Dot speaker. It really lacked only one thing that I wanted...back-lit buttons. I use this in my bedroom and at night in a dark room, fumbling to find the buttons was a pain. I could say "Alexa...rewind 30 seconds", etc and my Echo Dot would take over but I wanted to be able to make full use of the remote, separate from the Echo Dot so I'll concentrate my review on the remote itself. Here are the things that the "PRO" has that the "standard" Alexa Fire TV voice remote doesn't have: "Find My Remote": NOTE: If you already have an Alexa Voice remote, you will want to add the Pro as a second remote and keep your original to use this feature if you don't have an Echo Dot or other Voice enabled device. The "Find My Remote" feature is a definite plus. You just say "Alexa...find my remote" and the PRO will begin to beep until you find it and touch a button. It works with any Alexa device (including your old Alexa voice remote) and ALSO WORKS WITH THE ALEXA APP on your phone. The "beeping" isn't very loud, but it's loud enough to enable you to find the remote between sofa cushions. Back-lit buttons: My favorite feature, hands down. It lights up automatically when it senses movement or if you press any button. The other features are cool and useful, but I got spoiled having a universal remote with back-lit buttons. Bluetooth Headphone Pairing (top right button): Easily paired my Pioneer Bluetooth headphones with very good quality and no lag or delay in the audio. A nice feature, but I live alone so I don't use headphones for TV viewing, so it's nice to have, but didn't factor into my decision to buy it, but if it's something that you would use, it works great. In addition to the Volume Up/Down the Pro includes a Channel Up/Down button. I have no need for this very often but it's handy. Settings Button: The Pro has a button that takes you directly to the "Settings Menu" skipping the need to use the "Menu" button and having to navigate to Settings. I guess it's useful, but I don't see a need to access settings very often and using the blue Alexa Voice control button, you can just press it and say "Open Settings". 2 Programmable Buttons on the PRO (labeled 1 and 2): Basically any command you give to Alexa, you can use these as a shortcut. You can also assign apps to them, etc. I assigned Button 1 to open HBOMAX and Button 2 to open YouTube TV as an example. The 4 quick-launch app buttons (Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu) at the bottom came as shown in my pic. In the product pics for this item above they are shown as blank buttons for some reason? I also have a Blink camera linked to my Alexa and can see a live shot from the camera on my TV with a quick voice command ("Show Camera Name") or I could assign that voice command to one of the 2 programmable buttons. When programming the buttons (a very easy process) it will show you your recent Alexa voice commands to choose from, you can choose "Apps" for a listing of all of your apps, etc. Same for games, etc. My decision to buy this rather than stick with the Alexa Voice remote that came with my Fire TV 4K was the Back-lit buttons. The headphone connection is cool, but I don't need it. The settings button I don't see my needing to access it often, so I don't care. Channel Up/Down button, only useful for me when using YouTube TV and I rarely channel surf so, I can live without it The 2 Programmable buttons: I like that I can have 2 extra apps to launch using one touch but I could just say "Launch HBOMAX" so maybe I'll find more fun or useful ways to use the buttons. ****When pressing the Blue Alexa Voice Button on the remote you don't need to say "Alexa" before giving the command. I did that once and had my Echo Dot trying to respond as well as the remote. lol In the end, I basically paid $35 so I could see the remote's buttons in the dark (I only paid $24.99 for the Fire TV Stick 4K with voice remote). LOL Was it worth it? I switched back to using the original one for one night and yes, not being able to see the buttons after being able to the night before is worth the $35 to eliminate the frustration. LOL I hope you find this review helpful.
Rough start, but now it's great. Update #2: I received the replacement remote today. After installing the batteries and pressing the home button, I navigated to the menu on the Fire Stick to add a remote. It immediately found the remote and paired. Total setup time was under 15 seconds. When I ask Alexa where my remote is, the remote starts beeping as intended. The tone isn't super loud, but it should help locate the remote as intended unless it's under a cushion. The tone almost sounds like the Universal Studios intro. The custom buttons are also super easy to setup. My overall impression of the remote itself after finally receiving it... Is 5 out of 5. It works exactly as intended, and was super easy to setup (once I received a working unit). I only wish the replacement process has been smoother, but it worked out in the end. While I would take off a star because of the initial experience, the product is what I'm rating. And yes, I would certainly recommend this product to others. Update #1: After writing my initial review, Amazon customer service contacted me in hopes of reaching a resolution. They apologized for the confusion with the experts, and were very friendly and understanding. While they were not able to "send a replacement" directly, they agreed to issue the refund immediately, and told me to keep, donate, or dispose of the current remote. I opted to have the refund credited as a gift card, so I could immediately place a new order and apply the gift card, which I did. The new remote should arrive by Saturday. I will provide additional updates on the product one I receive it and finally get to test its features. Initial Review: I ordered this remote to replace a lost remote. By the time it arrived, the original FireTV Stick 4K was bricked, and they could not fix it. I ordered a NEW FireTV Stick 4K during Black Friday, and got it set up tonight without a hitch. Once it was setup, I attempted to pair this Remote Pro with my new FireTV Stick 4K (3rd Gen). Despite repeated attempted holding the Home button down, it would never connect. Long story short, I've now spent 1 hour and 40 minutes on two phone calls, being transferred to 6 different representatives. I've factory reset my remote pro 4 times, changed batteries, unplugged the FireTV Stick, and done everything but dance.... Everything the customer service "experts" advised. The first FireTV "expert" told me there wasn't even an option to add another remote in the settings (?!? Settings.... Controllers and Bluetooth Devices). Then I spoke to another "expert" who told me the Remote Pro wasn't compatible with Fire TV Stick, despite its compatibility page listing 5 types of Fire TV Sticks it's compatible with. After finally having tech support agree it was likely an RMA.... they refused to send a replacement, as it was not in Amazon's policy to do so. The only option would be to send it back, wait days for it to be received, so they can process the refund, wait for it to show a credit, and then I get to spend the money on the remote again and hope for the best. I've been an Amazon Prime customer for years, and I've had great experiences 95% of the time.... But this is by far the worst experience I've ever had with them. I think the product page sounds great for this product, and I understand RMAs happen... That's all fine. I get it. But to go through nearly three total hours just trying to get a remote paired or replaced has me questioning if it's worth it in the first place. Perhaps if I ever get a working Remote Pro, I'll be glad to update my rating.
Best Alexa remote so far. I was worried I wouldn't like this remote cause of all the added buttons. After using the Fire TV remote that came with the 3rd gen Cube, I'm quite used to this style now, and I really like the Pro remote over the stock one cause it's back down to 5.8" which is closer to the 5.6" Alexa remotes were used to. The remote was easy to pair. Backlit buttons are bright, app buttons are colorful. To set your shortcut buttons, you click Alexa Voice Remote Pro in the remote/controller settings, and map your buttons from there. For now, I set mine to the 2 Alexa routines I use most. D-pad clicks are really quiet, especially to my stock remote. The remote has a new shape at the top and bottom and also is a little thinner than other Alexa remotes. Two things I hope get changed in future updates: • Added setting to control the backlight setting along with the option to turn them off completely. This will help make batteries last longer if one so chooses. • Custom Actions for mapping the shortcut buttons. To be able to use your voice remote & Alexa to set the action you want, eg: Alexa routine. As it is now, you can select the 3 most recent voice commands. So if you want to set a routine and haven't used it recently, you have to run the routine first to get it to display so you can select it as your action. Would also be nice to have a digital keyboard pop-up so you could type out your custom action if you didn't want to use your voice/ alexa. *UPDATE* Item arrived. Pics added. I also bought another 'Casebot' remote cover for this Pro remote. It'll be here tomorrow. I already know I'll like the remote a whole lot better after i put that on. I've had a Casebot on my last 4 remotes, can't go without it. Completely changes the way it feels in your hand. And they are a night and day difference in quality compared to Mission (made for Amazon) remote covers. Casebot is the only brand I'll ever use/recommend. All in all, it's a great remote. Worth $35? I'm not sure. But I really wanted the backlight feature so it is what it is. Update #2 * There is a very small issue I've noticed. The center button (select/ok) has some play in it. It's not as firm as previous gen remotes. It's got a spongy feeling to it before you get the "click." I ended up buying another remote hoping it was an issue with just mine, and was gonna return my old one. Unfortunately the new one has the same issue. It's enough to bug me and for it being the "Pro" remote, it shouldn't be there. For the price of it, this remote should be flawless. And when it's got an issue that older gen remotes don't have, it's unacceptable.
Without Doubt - The Best Fire Tv Remote Introduced Thus Far. I have tried many remotes from Roku, Apple & Fire Tv. Until this remote was released, Fire Tv had the most basic and 'uninteresting' remote with Roku Private Listening remote being the best by far. The private listening feature on Roku was Next Gen! However, I see the tables turning with this new Fire Tv Pro Remote. To start with the design, size and feel, is the best compared to others. The keys are very nicely laid and stands out amongst other remotes as a premium product. Pairing - Was pretty straight forward, just as any other FireTv remote. The technology packed inside comes to light once pairing is completed. Control - The buttons are nice and soft and feel is great. Backlit - The backlit function is very useful and lights up and illuminates well without too much of a brightness. The Backlit sensor is quite intuitive, so no more rambling in the dark and pressing the wrong button/s! Search Feature - using Alexa device, "locate my Fire Tv remote" is a clever and very useful piece of technology that is added. The locator alarm is quite loud and can be heard from far away! Head Phone button - Clicking the "headphone" icon/button leads to bluetooth Headset pairing mode. I was pleasantly surprised when my FireTv stick paired with my Air Pods Pro. Wow - now I can enjoy my entertainment using the Air Pods Pro. This is indeed a very useful addition. The two buttons marked '1' and '2' to setup any channel, app or scene operation is one very useful feature. I tried the pairing process of the buttons to varied applications and they all work like a breeze. The pairing procedure is also very straight forward. I particularly love the fact the buttons can be programmed to operate smart devices using scenes. I have paired one button to switch on my Fan and the other to change its wind speed. Works well and the feature is a very useful addition. On a slightly negative note, I noticed that after hours in sleep mode of the FireTv device, the two buttons fail to respond without first pressing the "Alexa" Voice button and waking the device. This happened to me after overnight - obviously the fire Tv has gone to deep sleep mode! This is only a minor inconvenience considering the many use case advantages this remote provides. Overall I give a thumbs up for this product and highly recommend this upgrade.
I would well recommend it to anyone that loses there remotes to buy this one. Well worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone. I’m trying to get my parents to get one for theirs. One of the best thing about the new pro remote is the lights that come on when ever you pick it up, all the buttons light up to help and allow you see what buttons you are pressing in the dark now that is a great thing to have. You can even choose 2 of your favorite stream severs to and on to the remote plus the ones that are already there like Netflix, Peacock, Prime Video and it even has a DirectTV one. Which I don’t us but still if you have DirectTV it’s a good thing to have on there for you. But the best thing about the new pro remote is. If you lose your remote like I have in the past it’s a lot easier to find it now because you either can use any Alexa device to help you find it or you can use your phone to help locate it. These are very great reasons to get this new remote for your Amazon firestick or Amazon tv.
I LOVE this backlit remote.... OMG....... what a game changer. It's so nice not having to fumble around in the dark or turn on a phone light to see the keys on your remote. Just slight movement or light rub over keys and they LIGHT UP LIKE CHRISTMAS. It stays illuminated as long as your fussing with it. When you put it down, it goes off within seconds saving battery life. I was so impressed I bought 2.......one for bedroom's tv and the original was for the living room. Alexa will help you find it if misplaced, it has 2 blank inputs for channels other than Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and Hulu. EXTREMELY easy to program them. I selected Paramount + and Peacock for my 2. Comes with FULL INSTRUCTIONS on how to pair, set up, program etc. It's a NO BRAINER. I wish other remotes would have backlit displays!!! Congrats Amazon on this WINNER!!! As a side note, check out "MISSION" Silicone REMOTE COVER for the PRO model suggested by Amazon. Yes, it's a little pricey, but it's one EXCELLENT, WELL MADE, EXCELLENT FIT & FEEL COVER in a variety of colors.

Great upgrade hate chosen brand for express buttons. Awesome upgrade almost perfect. The backlite is awesome. The find my remote ability we have needed forever. The custom button give great flexibility. However, the two bottom express app buttons on mine are DirecTV and Peacock. Two service I have never and have no interest in subscribing too. Disney+ and Hulu have been the usual and what the first review photos show and what I would perfer. Basically, this hurts the custom button cause one of them will be either Hulu or Disney+ for me. Just really hurts my take on this. Not having this on the official pictures feels like a bait and switch. That's where I remove stars, I'm on the fence buying anymore for now. On a side note, I don't really understand the reason for the channel button. It's not IR which would be nice to control over the air tv channels (would still need a change input button). It function is basically limited to the guide page and it's only difference from the navigation button is the TV makes no clicking sound when moving up or down. This remote is really just 2 functions short of a universal remote for me. Wish it could be in the future.
Expensive remote that does what it’s supposed to do sometimes. This is a good remote to have with kids. I like the location feature and the backlit buttons are great! I think the price is high for what it is. The worst part of the remote is the false advertising Amazon does on the remote. It shows pictures of blank buttons, and they aren’t. I have no use for DirecTV but my remote came with that button. Almost every other review shows Disney+. Amazon needs to stick with a button design and use it for all remotes. Almost considering returning it due to this Update 1/18:the directional buttons and select buttons don’t always work. You sometimes have to press the button 10 times and wait 20 seconds for it to respond. Other times it will keep moving in the direction you pressed and will keep scrolling until it decides to stop. Other times it will go a whole day without issue. I’m really trying to like the remote. I think Amazon needs to work it a little more before releasing it to the public
Underwhelming just ok. The media could not be loaded. This in my opinion could be a great remote! My only issue is the bottom 4 streaming buttons. My pro remote reads Prime Video, Netflix, Direct TV, & Peacock. It should read Prime Video, Netflix, Disney+, & Hulu. I bought this for an elderly adult (hence the backlit feature as well as “find my remote” feature). I called customer support but was told that remote does not exist. I know it does exist because every other customer review picture has the correct buttons! Is there anyway I can customize before I buy? Is there something I should ask for before I buy? I will be calling back today and I f I can’t get the standard pro remote I will return the 2 ($70+) remotes. It’s a shame because I really liked the remotes and think they are worth it had they been in the right ones Update:I called back a few times and ordered 2 more pro remotes, one came correct and one was an older version of the Firestick. I will be keeping one of the 4K Firesticks and one of the pro remotes, thus returning 3/4 pro remotes and 1/2 4K Firesticks that weee purchased. I like the pro remote but honestly I think it’s overpriced & just meh. In 2023 I think all remotes should be backlit. I think it should be no more than $20. IMO
Shortcut Buttons were changed. I love the remote, but giving it 3 stars for its biggest issue to me. I only was purchasing new remotes because over the years, amazon has changed the shortcut buttons. Recently I had seen that the 4 being used now were Prime, Netflix, hulu, and Disney Plus, which happened to be my favorite streaming accounts. For this reason, i decided to upgrade. Then the remotes came, and Disney and Hulu were replaced with Directv and Peacock. First of all, Directv as a choice is just ridiculous. I purchased 4 of these remotes, to be really disappointed. I will be returning them. Other than that, the new features are nice, but it seems like the remotes are slower than before too.
Inconsistency in Button Labels. Remote is awesome, best FireTV remote ever. Backlight buttons and Find My Remote are the 2 reasons you should always add this remote to any FireTV you have or are going to buy. What sucks is that I have bought 2 of these remotes now and one has Disney/Hulu buttons, which I appreciate and use, but the 2nd remote has buttons for DirecTv and Peacock. When I am the only tech savvy person in a house with 15 or so FireTVs, Echo Shows, etc - it is important to keep things consistent so my family doesn’t feel like they broke something by pushing the same buttons on 2 remote and getting 2 different outcomes. Come on Amazon - if you can’t keep them consistent, then just leave them blank so you don’t confuse anyone.
"Find my remote" feature can be a challenge when you also have the Tile App. I bought this remote - excited to have the "Find my remote" feature. However, every time I ask Alexa to find my remote - I get "Sorry, What's the full name". The remote doesn't seem to have a name, therefore I literally can't use this feature. I have the feeling this is due to the Tile app and Alexa being confused - but either way - it just doesn't work. Update 11/25: I heard back from Amazon (they do have good customer service). They helped me find the item in my list of devices in the Alexa app. It was called "1st remote" or something like that. I renamed the remote, and now just have to call it by its exact name. "Find my remote" still doesn't work however, as the system isn't smart enough to realize (even if talking to the device it is connected to) which remote to use. Overall - I'm still a big thumbs up for the product (from the back light alone). I will update this to 5 stars once they fix the broader issue that does seem to be in relation to the Tile App.
