Pros & Cons

Pros

Meets expectations. When I started researching massage chairs it was very difficult to find objective reviews. They were either made by the manufacturer, or someone who didn't seem to have ever tried the actual chairs. Here is an unbiased explanation why I chose the MassaMax306, and what to look for in your chair. Why this chair? This particular model is essentially the same as several other "brands" (like the iRelax 306a, among others). This one however has a calf kneading capability. In reality all that means is that the little separator between your calves goes up and down in some of the modes. It's nice, but not that much of a difference. I bought this chair over the other "brands" mainly because it had a $400 coupon at the time and put the cost under the others with the same features. That was really the selling point. This chair has full SL track (you want this! meaning it goes from your neck to your mid thigh). It has 6 main pre-programmed modes and 6 other "hidden" ones. Hidden in the sense it isn't a short cut on the remote you have to enter the hidden modes in, its not that hard and you can find them in the book. Ah, the book, its well....limited. There isn't a ton of information, most of what you will learn is from trial and error. Like- if you change anything to a custom setting- say change the type of massage from kneading to pounding the auto mode stops and now you will need to change everything manually for that session. Good and bad, but you will need to play with it and what works for you- don't expect the book to explain it. Now, once you get the hang of how auto modes work and how to work everything manually its a pretty good machine. Its solid, it's well made, it is strong, and in my opinion after having it a month it seems solid enough to last a long time. However....the limited modes, and the inability to easily manage manual modes simply may be a limiting factor for anyone who is looking for a simple set it and forget it machine. If you have a brain that can work though the menus and abstract levels and modes you will enjoy this much more. The auto modes are limited, and even though I have some skin on my bones, there are some modes that HURT in certain places. Especially in kneading as it goes over your hip crest. You can adjust this by arching a little when the roller gets there to alleviate some of the pinch. When I say auto modes are limited, I prefer a knocking massage to a kneading massage- BUT I would like to use the auto mode "relax" with knocking- you can't do it! Once you change to knocking the auto mode turns off and now you are in manual mode. I find this to be very disappointing. Those tow things are my biggest cons for this machine- pinching and auto mode adjustment. Once last thing, maybe it's just me and I haven't found the right setting, but when the auto program ends you are left in a zero gravity position. Now thats great if you still want to relax once it's done. However, if you want to get out of the chair you have to spin the dial on the arm rest to get sent back to the starting position. Improvements? Obviously the ability to modify the auto modes to adjust amount of pressure, width of rollers, type of massage would be great. A better remote, the remote is limited and pretty clunky in the sense it is difficult to understand how to do what you want to do (except for the auto program) A few "memory" saves so that you can make your own programs- but I can see that might be difficult to program out a full 20 minute session, so I get it. The leg feature does not adjust automatically, the length is spring adjusted. Meaning you have push down on the foot rest to get the length where you want it- some of the more expensive models do this automatically with a motor, this one does not. The arm sleeve sits a little too far away, so your arms when in the sleeves don't always match up to where they should be when the air bags activate. Overall: I went between this general model (like I said there are lots of "brands" out there but its the same chair) with the features it has at the $2k price point and the iRest a710 ($4k) which had a few more features, a more intuitive remote and a little more plush look. While I think the a710 may have been nicer in the sense it MIGHT have been easier to control- having sat in a few of these chairs throughout the years- I don't think the difference would have been worth $2k more- again, just my opinion. Overall we are happy with this chair, it has already helped my back (I sit at a desk 8-10 hours a day) I use it daily after work and it loosens everything up. I have found several modes that work for me at this point, and the back heat is a nice added feature as well. I would recommend this chair, it seems to be a good value based on features, price, and projected lifespan. I hope this helps someone else looking, because there isn't a ton of good information out there! Good luck!

Great therapy aid for my spine problems. Well priced. My daughter and I are enjoying this product very much. She works long hours, different shifts…and so do I! After working for decades in the medical field I have developed herniated disks at several levels of my spine with terrible neck muscle spasms and debilitating flair ups of lumbar pain. She has tight neck muscles. She gave the chair a try one day…and many days after. Then stopped asking…because her neck was so much better! It’s also my experience the relieve will last for several days! After searching for several days I found MassaMax 2022 to summarize the best features available and the best offer out there. I’ve been using this product for three months and it does not disappoint. It offers an array of Presets 1-7 (f1-f5 and ‘More’ on the remote). The Modes shortcut offers different massage techniques rendered by what I call the ‘hands’ of the Manipulator (the part doing the action up and down your spine, buttocks and hamstring area). I was greatly surprised by the combination of features I was able to get from this chair. The more I got to know all the available functions the more I felt the MassaMax offers more than I need for relaxation and pain relieve. All functioning in perfect harmony and sequence, one can feel the science behind it all. For instance, the massage provided to hands and forearm doesn’t occur ramdomly, it squeezes your finger tips, then your forearm, promoting the blood flow back to the heart through the veins. I can also feel the relaxing stretch through the pressure applied. By the way, the great majority of features one can control, like the intensity of the airbags, the width of the spine massage unit and the speed of the massage. I love switching Modes: from shiatsu, to tapping, to tapping plus shiatsu combined (my favorite), 6 modes in total; they are a blast! One of my favorite features is to fixate the manipulator in one area during the 20-minute massage. To get there, while all the airbag action is going on, I tap the human torso icon on the remote then select the level of massage by clicking the mentioned icon one more time when the manipulator get to the area I want, then one more time to keep it there. I can always use the arrows to move it up and down if I am not happy where the massage is going on. This can be done also with the neck Pre-set via the “shoulder position” arrows at the left upper quadrant of the Remote. There’s the legrest area great for people who are standing for long hours. There are rollers for the bottom of your feet and dedicated airbags with kneading action for your calf , all of which you can control or simply turn of if you had enough of it. The time of massage is 20 minutes by default, but you can increase it up to 30 minutes at a time. If I need more work in any area or my daughter wants it, I let the machine rest for at least 30-45 minutes before starting another session. The time you can adjust from 5 to 30 minutes, via 5 minute increase. I love the lumbar heat. I take prevention very seriously because I want my chair to last for years to come. I follow directions according to the manual: at the end of every session I turn of the chair in the back and unplug it form the power outlet. I even have a surge protector dedicated to this chair. I understand this is not an industrial grade chair; it’s for personal use. I try not to abuse it and also keep it in an area of good ventilation; I turn the ceiling fan on -I am hot nature anyway- most of the times. This chair looks great, very decorative . Leather feels real, good quality. A couple words of warning: the chair is narrow at my shoulders (I am kind of athletic type), I just twist them a little until I find a time to call Costumer service to get instructions on how to remove the upper body airbags ( I don’t need them anyway). Secondly, at some point some area may feel like the mechanism is hurting your spine joints, even painful, I think this is because those muscles are now relaxed and the manipulator is reaching deeper. What works for me to adapt to this situation is to just widen the (width) of the massage or place a 2-inch-thick cushion in the area of concern. Lastly, Costumer Service can be reached via phone call, email and even video chat. I had a software malfunction with a prior chair and the Seller decided to send me a brand new chair. You can tell they care about your satisfaction with this product.

Great Chair! Similar features to the much heavier iRest a710. I was considering the a710 prior to getting this unit. I wanted to place it upstairs and a710 100+ lbs. heavier. This chair has most of the same features sans heated foot rest, white noise, wireless charger and negative ions. The remotes are even the same. The chair is very quiet and provides a deep message. Favorites: Neck & Shoulder Health Recharge Office Regiment Relax Pros: Shoulder airbags push body into massager Cons: Leg aatachment makes creaking sound when extending and retracting Chair position does not fully reset after finish, need to power on then off Heated Shawl only hot when rolls go by it. Bugs: Regardless of which program you choose on start-up screen it always uses 4D auto program if you hit the OK button during shoulder sense. Let it timeout. Regardless of neck position selected at startup it will always use 6 if you hit the OK button before it times out. Feature Request: Built-in spa sounds USB/Bluetooth/WiFi firmware updates Able to enable/disable each airbag zone instead of just upper and lower.

Great buy. I will start this by saying I was a Licensed Massage Therapist for 30 years. While this is not an intuitive therapist, the quality and work of this chair is great. I love deep work and this chair can deliver. Very customizable and fits a range of sizes. I was able to get it through my front door no problem, it uncrated and went together within a few minutes. So far no issues at all, delivery was very responsive and helpful narrowing down a time for me. Try the neck and shoulders setting and don’t forget the lower back heat!! Thanks for producing a fine product!!

It does everything that it should do and more and. I like almost everything about this, it massages every part of your body except of course your front. The only downside is that I’m a big person I weigh 290. I would estimate that you shouldn’t be any bigger than 200 pounds to get the full effect. The only thing that doesn’t fit me is the arm massage.

Great chair. I’d give it 5 stars but it’s a little small for me. (5’11” 250lbs)

Cons

MT339 - NOT What We Were Expecting. This is not a chair you will want to use every day! First, This chair looks great but it is mostly uncomfortable. There is NO WAY to turn down the intensity of the massage. You can dial up or down the speed of the massage, but not the intensity of it. It is incredibly painful on your lower back area - the rest of my back and neck are great, but my hip bones and lower back are screaming in pain from a few minutes in the chair. You can't relax and enjoy it in any mode. My husband feels the same way. I called the Company and they are sending us a cushion to soften the intensity. We are not the first to complain of this, obviously, and their fix is to send you a cushion. We'll see if it works! Secondly, the voice activation (Alice) does not work worth a dang! Again, when I addressed this with the Company I was told, "It doesn't work well on any model and "everyone" complains about it". Yes, that is what I was told. I can live without the voice control. To me it's not a big deal, however if I am paying this much for a chair with voice control I expect it to work. Third, the "heating" shawl has four little spots/areas that are supposed to heat up. They don't get very warm at all. Really disappointed in this "feature". Fourth, the airbags on the legs intensify as the time goes on. Toward the end of the massage it was squeezing so hard I was wondering if I had any blood flow left going to my feet. It was so uncomfortable! Fifth, the shipping company they used showed up to our house with a semi-truck that did NOT have a lift gate and only one small guy, the driver. If my husband hadn't been here there is NO WAY the little driver would have gotten the chair off the semi by himself unless he just pushed it off and let it bounce along the roadway. Thank goodness my husband is a bigger guy and strong and the three of us were able to get it safely down. I will wait to get the cushion from the company and try it again, maybe turn the lower airbags off for the second half of the massage. For Reference, my husband and I are both in our 50's. I am 5'9" 160 lbs (size 10) and my husband is 6'1" and 200 lbs. (size 32/34). We are in good shape and active. Neither of us is a "bigger" person, so no extra padding anywhere. I am seriously considering send the chair back but it is such a hassle to box it all back up exactly as it arrived. I want the chair to work well and feel great. I want a relaxing experience. That's what I paid for. Let's hope a cushion can get us there!

Okay but wants improvement. This is your basic assuage chair at a decent price point. The American consumer market doesn’t have much exposure to massage chairs, so expectations may be lower than in other countries such as Japan where the market is very demanding. Points we like: > Voice command works well > Bluetooth is fine > Zero gravity and capsule are good. > Long S/L track reaches down to thighs > Lumbar heating is exquisite > I’m pretty sure a programming error results in the roller width not matching the remote control indicator (medium is narrow and vice versa) Things needing improvement: > 3D roller width is not adjustable in automatic massages, and this results in some painful moments, particularly in the shoulder blades. > Manual use is irrationally limited. You apparently cannot focus on areas especially the lower extremes and not all five massage patterns are adjustable. I see no good reason that functions programmed in automatic routines or massage of which the machine are capable are not accessible. > As many have noted, the calf massage and foot roller can cause pain at times. > Arm air bags don’t do much and the shoulder air bag can even pressure just one spot to discomfort Summary: A decent chair at a reasonable price point. This product could be easily improved through better software. As it can be quite brisk, this chair is not for the delicate or faint of heart, and the moments of pain are a distraction from the goal of relaxation. Calling it “3D” is a stretch given that there is virtually no control of roller width, and do not expect much by way of manual controls. A good massage should not include pain and the manufacturer needs to address this if it wants to be successful.

Very nice, but too hard! Arrived a week early in pristine condition! It's a lot more than I was expecting. Being 6', 280 lbs., it's a tight fit, but I can get in it comfortably. I haven't been able to get a good "massage" yet because it is way too strong. I can't seem to find out how to keep the lower back from rising like 4 or 5" as it goes down. This is very painful! Not a single person in my family has enjoyed it yet due to this problem. I can't imagine anyone would like this! Next thought is to look for some kind of pad to put down the middle. I can't imagine why they programmed the track to raise up so high forcing the rollers into the spine! The "voice control" is worthless, and keeps going off from the TV so I had to turn it off, and there are very few customizations that can be done to the programming. I really wish you were able to set your own parameters. The custom settings is just saving any adjustments made to the current program, and that doesn't even work. Saving one turns off the chair altogether.

Very narrow chair. I bought for my husband. The chair is very narrow made for a skinny skinny person. The setting on the chair you have to play with to don’t the chair can hurt you. Comfort not at all. Not returning because it’s way to big to try to return it. Should I buy this chair? NO

Quality of Product. It is uncomfortable by the legs and seat cushions hard. I had to put a pillow for softness behind my back and waist are in addition to one inserted as a head pillow. Nobody in my family fit in this chair. No what size you are the massagers and the air mats don't match up with your body parts.
