The Wonder Gate! I have been incredibly impressed by these gates in the month I've had them. Super easy to install and operate, seemingly durable, and ultimately effective at doing what I wanted them to. I have two gates installed on our patio/walkway immediately outside our front door, which is also very close to our driveway and road. With three kids under 6 and an escape artist puppy we needed a solution that would allow for heavy in/out traffic when we needed and also keep all these small bodies away from the road when our attention is so frequently divided; the results have been amazing! It is so easy to extend and retract this gate and the elegantly designed lock feature makes the flexible mesh sturdy enough to deter those who try to get underneath, even our cats, much to their chagrin. While I don't think the gate is tall enough that I can trust our dog/kids to not attempt to vault over the top if we left them alone with it, it is perfect for helping us enforce this very necessary boundary in conjunction with our supervision. Really for our toddler and smaller dog this gate may as well be prison bars, they've got no chance of escape, and the fact it so effectively deters our medium bodies as well makes this one of my most satisfying purchases in recent memory. I would highly recommend this product to anyone who needs to block off a wider than usual high traffic area from little wanderers, I can't imagine anything better!
Porch gate. I purchased this gate to use on my front porch to help keep my grandkids from leaving the porch and/or falling down the stairs. I chose this one because I needed something that could expand to over 80". The quality seems good, I like the locking mechanism that will keep them from crawling under the gate. Of course, there is always an adult on the porch with them, but this has the added safety of keeping them from falling down the steps if they get too close to the top step. For what I was looking for this does the job. There is a busy road in front of the house, and this gives me a little peace of mind that the children will be safe even if I get distracted for a moment or two. We will see in time how well it holds up.

We wanted to use it for our dogs so that they wouldn't run after other dogs in the neighborhood, and this one is long enough the block the stairway threshold. I used zip ties to attach it to the metal railings on my porch and it looks great as it is black, my railings are black and so are the zip ties.

[EDITED]- “RECEIVED ITEM”. Pros and Cons as with anything we buy. Lets start off with the Pro’s: This gate is Very Easy to set up, a child could do it. Stretches and retracts smoothly, and is very long. Totally Perfect for any doorway or archway, or even a Porch entranceway. The Cons: As you have probably read other reviews, the hooks are made of plastic, so they could probably break easily. (This is an easy fix. Hardware stores carry similar replacement items.) Once the gate is extended, it is a bit flimsy, and could probably buckle, or the hooks break if a child leans on it, or a dog runs into it with their weight. If you leave any gap at the floor level, your animal, or child, may feel the urge to try and scoot under it, and WILL be able to do it. But, if you level the gate at the floor, it may mess with the retractable spring on recoil. To sum it up. These retractable baby gates are a simple deterrent, for a well behaved, Submissive, or slow moving, aged animal. I wouldn't trust it as a blockade for an active, disobedient and intelligent animal, or active toddler. For me, It does what I needed it to do. (I have an Old, pretty well behaved dog, and it works perfectly). If you need a blockade, buy a foldable or sliding wood or plastic gate. Hope this review helped to make your decision.
not all that secure. so first off, there were no spacers to install it level (over the baseboard). and the wall. of course the screws are just long enough to reach the stud through the dry wall but i would not say long enough to secure it. i had to reposition it a few times. mounted flat on the flour left a good gap under the gate. luckily i have a section of carpet lower then the flooring so the roll could be mount slightly below the gate, so i have almost zero gap between the gate and the floor. after all that the dog and the toddler can squeeze under it. the gate has too much slack in it and can be pulled up or down in the center. it will not stop a determined dog or toddler. just slow them down.
Definitely needs to be placed in STUDS! Placed this in the wall and used the anchors, and my puppies were still able to knock it out of the wall within a week. When put into the wall studs it holds up now. The anchors will just tear your wall out if there is ANY weight put on the gate at all. Best to save yourself time and frustration by placing in wall studs from the beginning. Works great now that it is placed securely. I would not recommend for use on stairs, unless you have wall studs on both sides.
Flimsy handle, broke easy. UPDATE: the seller has been very accommodating, offering parts and a full refund. I will replace parts and hope it lasts. In appearance this gate is awesome and convenient and helped solve a problem of a wide opening with double set of stairs (one up, on down). Not even a week in, part of the handle broke where it connects to the retractable gate. No problem as it still worked. Today, 6 weeks after installing, the handle broke off completely with just a minor pull from my 10 month old baby. I don't even want to think about what could of happened if the whole gate snapped back. Very disappointed.
So much potential, but ultimately a let down. We have a large opening between our foyer (where the dogs lay & the stairs are) and the living/kitchen area (where the toddler plays). We were looking to separate those spaces but couldn't find a retractable gate long enough (~78 inches). This one was one of the few that fit the bill. The anchors sent with the product are pure garbage. Don't use them. You'll just end up pulling them out and using your own. Screw into at least one stud but the opposite side will need anchors (simply based on how stud spacing works). The side with the anchors provided pulled out of the wall immediately upon use. The latches leave much to be desired. As several people have stated, they are plastic. I'm waiting for them to snap/break. When installed the correct way, the latches work well and do their job. The locking feature is fantastic (if you don't lock it, it will snap back aggressively). It doesn't retract well. It rolls up too quickly and the material bunches. The huge letdown: the tension on this thing is terrible. Even pulled tight & locked, there is visible slack. My toddler crawled right under it. whomp whomp. I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable using this at the top of stairs. For now, it's not worth it to pull it down and have to patch a million holes. We'll use it as a visual barrier I guess. Definitely not worth the $$$. Perhaps it works well for smaller openings but it shouldn't be advertised as a "large opening" product.
