Pros & Cons

Pros

Excellent Sound. I am very happy with the audio quality of this receiver. Sounds better than my previous Sony and Onkyo receivers. Setup was very easy with the built in calibration mic. I made some small post calibration adjustments and done. Audio is very clear and speaker separation is outstanding.

Super set-up assistance on TV screen. Refurbished Denon AVR S760H so far is outstanding. Sound is crystal, picture from Cox cable is upscaled to unbelievable clarity. Performing just I had hoped. So many input connections to use, Audessey speaker calibration gave great results. Only question is that normal hockey game volume level is at 50.0 out of 100 which surprised me.

Awesome picture and sound. Very glad I bought this. This is my 2nd 7.2 ch Dolby Atmos AVR but my first ever Denon. So far no problems. Have an old pair of 100 watt 3 ohm Samsung speakers on it but waiting for 8 ohm 200 watt 5 surround speakers to come next week. My Klipsch RCS-Reference Dolby Atmos speakers rock along with the 300 watt monoprice SW-10 subwoofer. ARC/eArc switching between devices is nice. A stutter now and then but nothing major. HEOS and Denon remote app works great. Have not tried the microphone EQ set up for speakers yet. For a renewed refurbished AVR , it's like it's brand new, no cosmetic flaws. It's nice to have all banana plugs for speakers vs spring tabs . Worth every penny. I paid the same price 2 weeks ago for a new Onkyo TX-NR5100 and had nothing but problems and glitches so sent it back. Glad I did.

Outstanding. Unit came quickly. I was most impressed by its Bluetooth and Internet Search abilities. However, I was initially very disappointing in the fact that when first turned on, the TV audio would not come on with the TV video until you switched the input selection to a blank channel and then switched back to cbl/sat. Tech support advised me that this is a common problem for AVRs in that they often have trouble handling the TV interface with a cable box (i.e. Comcast) . This problem could probably be fixed with an "HDMI Fixer" connected between the cable box and the AVR, or I could return the unit for exchange. Not wanting to return the unit, and not knowing what an HDMI Fixer was (the tech could not describe it), I did some research on Google and Amazon to find that an "Edid Emulator" would frequently solve the sort of problem I was having. These things cost somewhere around $150, but I found one on Amazon for $20. I bought it, plugged it into the HDMI output of my cable box to place it between the AVR and the cable box, and solved the problem. I did not like the feature of the AVR that it would not remember the settings of the reproduction Options when the unit was turned off. Tech support told me how to use the QUICK SELECT buttons on the remote control to save all the options, and that eliminated that problem. I bought the renewed AVR-S760H-7.2 to replace a Pioneer Elite 7.1 that had failed for the second time after some 20 years of service. The renewed Denon unit cost less the the Pioneer repair, and I like it much better: better sound quality with the same speakers, more options for sound reproduction, each of which makes a significant change in the sound quality, and the Bluetooth and Internet Searching abilities. I highly recommend the unit, but be prepared to purchase an Edid Emulator if you have the same problem I did.

Sound is excellent. 7.2 system with sound from everywhere. Watching movies is better than the theater. Now it just needs to fix the popcorn .

Top quality receiver. Pretty incredible features they pack into this receiver. For the price and features you can’t beat it.

Cons

Maybe a bad combo with LG C2/Shield Pro/Klipsch Reference speakers? UNBOXING: My refurb looks unused. Still had stickers on the front, no damage, no scratches, however one of the felt feet in the front was shorter than all the rest so it sat a bit lopsided, no biggie tho. It came with paperwork from Denon including a card with all the tests that it passed complete with the inspector's initials. It all looks legit, very nice. Came with remote, batteries, and the "rocket" calibration mic holder (very nice). I called Electronics Expo (seller) (not the friendliest, not a place I would choose to do business with, a bit rude) and they told me they do not repair these units, they purchase them directly from Denon. There is no known info about what was repaired. MY SETUP: Klipsch RC-62 c, RB-51 f, KLH s, Bic pl2 sub. 5.1. Replacing a Yamaha RX-V673 (10 years old). WHY I BOUGHT THIS: I got tired of the (lame) Dolby Digital signal that gets sent from tv to receiver (ARC). I missed TrueHD/DTS from Plex and PS5/XB. (They are all plugged into tv, ARC to Yammy). I needed a receiver I could plug everything into without losing gaming latency, dolby vision, HDR, etc. I also wanted the possibility of Experiencing Atmos in the future. SOUND QUALITY: Plugged in my PS5, XBSX, Shield Pro, and went out eARC to LG C2 tv. Ran the Audessey calibration (I could have done this better.) I have been rewatching Game of Thrones (both on LG tv HBO Max app and on Shield Pro) and was in about 3 seasons before switching to this receiver. It set the sub ridiculously loud. The vocals sound very muddy. Sounds like Vaseline was smeared over my speakers. Sounds as if I mounted my speakers *behind* my tv stand. After a few days I turned Audessey off and it sounded worse. Turned it back on and then changed the speaker crossover to 100 and it sounded a bit better however the vocals still had too much bass/mids, even the female (Cercey Lannister) vocals. This is of course objective. I hooked up my old Yammy and noticed the sharpness of the dialog. RETURNING: I'm returning it due to the sound quality and the CEC. *NOT ENTIRELY SURE IT'S THE DENON'S FAULT*, the LG C2 is partly to blame here. I could not get the Shield Pro to turn on my TV via CEC. It's plugged directly into the Denon and then into tv. I plugged the Shield directly into the tv and it would not turn the tv on. Plugged it into my old Yammy and it DOES turn the tv on. IDK. Also, It seems with every odd button press on my LG tv remote it turns on my PS5 (which is plugged into my Denon). I troubleshooted for days. I also noticed then when jumping ahead (15 seconds) on HBO MAX, when the movie would resume I would hear everything out of all speakers for a quick second. It's as if 7 channel stereo was briefly turned on for a second. CONCLUSION: Perhaps Denon/Klipsch is not a great combo? Maybe this Denon, LG C2, Shield Pro do not play nicely together? Maybe it's the Refurb - problems still not/never fixed? I'm buying new next time and save myself the "What-if" unless I know exactly what was fixed on it (Which should really be mandatory I think). I am tempted to try The Onkyo 6050. I might just go Vizio H1 sound bar just for the simplicity of it. It sounds fantastic IMO. Receivers are just WAY TOO COMPLICATED these days and I don't have the bandwidth for the learning curve.

Is it me? I replaced a 15 Sony 7.2.1 (100W) system with this unit. 1st thing I noticed is the sound level appears to be quite low. My Sony system would be too loud (for most friends/family) at around 30 on the volume (about 1/3 of the volume range). Around 50, it was obnoxiously loud. On this Dennon unit, the sound levels are quite lower. The unit does not begin to make decent volume until it is at 50. Below 60-70 (range) the sound quality is quite muddled. When it gets to a volume that is on the borderline of "too loud" the system finally begins to sound decent (natural). Keep in mind that I have kept all of the same (mix) of mid-range (cost) speakers and surrounds that were running on the Sony system. I haven't had much time to play with the system. I will tweak the settings on the system and TV to see if I can get it sounding satisfactory. My GF absolutely hates the way the system sounds. She thinks everything is muddy. I bought this as a reconditioned system. I hope I didn't buy a bad system.

Great sound and picture quality. Purchased the renewed item. Three stars only because the microphone wasn't working otherwise it would have been 5 stars. Luckily I had a mic from my old Onkyo receiver that stopped working after 2 years. Setup was really easy, especially connecting to network and streaming devices. Great overall product.

The sound on the center channel would degrade and become muddled over a short time. I read the review of others who had the same problem. I reset the Audyssey controls several times and the same thing happened. I tried the manual controls and the same thing happened. I have the center channel volume turned up to max and the same thing happened. There are too many software controls on this unit for the average person and the extreme lack of instructions in the on=line manual.

Care. Read everything. Item was shipped out Jan 27…quit working May 1. Totally quit
